The present invention relates to new crystalline forms I, II and III of 2-methyl-4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)-10H-thieno[2,3-b][1,5]-benzodiazepine hydrochloride, a process for the preparation thereof and pharmaceutical compositions containing the same. The novel compounds possess neuroleptic effect and can be used, primarily, for the treatment of schizophrenia.
