Disclosed are improved retransmission schemes. In one embodiment, a retransmission method includes: receiving, at a protocol layer in a receiver, a data block transmitted from a protocol layer in a transmitter; determining that it is not possible to decode the data block; determining that it is not probable that the data block can be decoded; signaling, from the protocol layer in the receiver, to the protocol layer in the transmitter first feedback information indicating that the data block was received; and signaling, from the protocol layer in the receiver, to the protocol layer in the transmitter second feedback information including information related to the reception time of the data block and indicating that the data block is aborted.

Data retransmission scheme

An arrangement for controlling energy consumption of a network node associated with a cell includes a terminal activity monitor () configured to detect active terminals served by the cell. A transmission controller () is connected to the terminal activity monitor and is configured to restrict transmission downlink in the cell during time periods when there are no active terminals served by the cell. During these time periods transmission is restricted to inermittent transmission of information assisting active terminals not served by the cell in finding the cell.

Controlling energy consumption of a wireless network node

A set of different pilot structures are designed for use in different environments and/or different user behaviors that are expected to occur in a cell. The radio conditions for a user are estimated. Each user is then assigned an area (A-E) in resource space for its communication, which has a suitable pilot configuration. In one embodiment, the entire resource space is provided with different pilot structures in different parts (A-D) In advance and allocation of resources to the users are then performed in order to match estimated radio conditions to the provided pilot structure. In another embodiment, allocation is performed first, and then the actual pilot structure is adapted within the allocated resource space area to suit the environmental conditions.
