There is provided a method and system for optimizing delivery of data to a mobile device over a network. According to one embodiment, the invention includes a communication stack, such as a TCP/IP stack, which includes an application protocol interface (API) between an application layer and a transport layer. According to this embodiment, the method includes receiving delivery optimization information; determining the priority of the data using the delivery optimization information; providing the priority of the data to a physical layer in the communication stack; and delivering the data to the mobile device based on the priority.

Optimization of data delivery in mobile networks

A system for providing architecture and signaling, by which a mobile communications device&#x2014;active within a WLAN environment&#x2014;may be effectively and efficiently interfaced with a CDMA2000 network to provide cooperative and concurrent VoIP and over-the-air (OTA) communications, is disclosed. A wireless communications system comprises a mobile station, operating in a wireless LAN environment. The mobile station access the Internet through a wireless LAN access point. The area is also provided service by a CDMA2000-based over-the-air network. A provisioning server, within the CDMA2000-based network, is accessible via the Internet. A mobile switching center is also within the CDMA2000-based network. An interface construct is communicatively coupled to the mobile switching center and to the wireless LAN, and is adapted to facilitate call traffic between the CDMA2000 network and the mobile station over the wireless LAN.

Versatile system for WLAN/CDMA2000 interworking

A base station for use in a 1xEV-DV/DO wireless network that communicates with mobile stations in its coverage area. The base station comprises a handoff controller for receiving a Handoff Request message from a first mobile station attempting to hand off to the base station. In response to receipt of the Handoff Request message, the handoff controller determines whether the available resources in the base station exceed a predetermined minimum threshold. If the available resources exceed the predetermined minimum threshold, the handoff controller allows the first mobile station to be handed off to the base station. Otherwise, the handoff controller prevents the first mobile station from being handed off to the base station.

Apparatus and method for improved handoffs in an EV-DV wireless network

A multi-hop wireless communication network is disclosed, which includes a fixed communication unit, at least one mobile communication unit, and a relay communication unit. The relay communication unit is operable to relay a plurality of signals bi-directionally between the fixed communication unit and the at least one mobile communication unit, by receiving a first signal on at least one of a dedicated sub-carrier and a dynamic sub-carrier in a first downlink channel segment from the fixed communication unit, and transmitting the received first signal to the at least one mobile communication unit on a dynamic sub-carrier in a second downlink channel segment. Also, the relay communication unit is operable to receive a second signal on a dynamic sub-carrier in a first uplink channel segment from the at least one mobile communication unit, and transmit the received second signal to the fixed communication unit on at least one of a dedicated sub-carrier and a dynamic sub-carrier in a second uplink channel segment. Also, the fixed communication unit can allocate bandwidth dynamically or in a fixed amount in the first downlink channel segment, the relay communication unit can allocate bandwidth dynamically in the second downlink channel segment based on at least one Quality of Service value received from the at least one mobile communication unit, the relay communication unit can allocate bandwidth dynamically for the at least one mobile communication unit in the first uplink channel segment, and the fixed communication unit can allocate bandwidth dynamically or in a fixed amount for the relay communication unit in the second uplink channel segment.

The receiving station reports to the transmitting station information about wide-beam and narrow-beam pilot signals that the receiving station has received from the transmitting station. The transmitting station estimates the direction of the beamformed transmission based on this information.

For example, a method for allocating bandwidth is disclosed, which includes the steps of a first communication device transmitting a first bandwidth allocation request, responsive to receipt of the first bandwidth allocation request, a second communication device transmitting a first bandwidth allocation value, responsive to receipt of the first bandwidth allocation request, a third communication device transmitting a second bandwidth allocation value, the first communication device comparing the first bandwidth allocation value with the second bandwidth allocation value, a fourth communication device transmitting a third bandwidth allocation request, and responsive to receipt of the third bandwidth allocation request and the comparing step, the first communication device transmitting a third bandwidth allocation value, the third bandwidth allocation value including at least one of the first bandwidth allocation value and the second allocation value.

Bandwidth allocation and soft handoff in multi-hop cellular communication networks

A proxy mobile station for retransmitting reverse channel signals from a mobile station to a base station of a wireless network. The proxy mobile station comprises: 1) a controller for receiving reverse channel data to be transmitted to the base station and transmitting the reverse channel data using an assigned mobile station identifier associated with the mobile station; and 2) a radio frequency transceiver for up-converting the encoded reverse channel data for transmission to the base station. The assigned mobile station is modifiable and may be modified by an external control device.

The base station comprises down-converts an RF to a down-converted signal, r(n). K complex PN demodulators multiply the down-converted complex r(n) signal by PN code sequences associated with each of the K mobile stations to produce K chip streams. K Walsh code demodulators multiply each of the K chip streams by a Walsh code associated with a mobile stations to produce K raw user signals. K subtractors subtract a first estimated interference signal associated with the dominant interferer signal from the K raw user signals to produce K estimated user signals. A detector receives the K estimated user signals and produces a detected user signal for each of the mobile stations. An interference estimator then determines which detected user signal is the dominant interferer signal.

Apparatus and method for canceling interference in a single antenna 1xEV-DV base station

For use in a wireless network, a controller for relay stations. The relay station increases cell coverage and user data rates while employing power consumption saving techniques. The relay station compares a threshold power setting with a current power setting. If the threshold power setting is greater than the current power setting, the relay station increments the threshold power setting and decreases the cell coverage. If the threshold power setting is less than or equal to the current power setting, the relay station decreases the threshold power setting until the threshold power setting is equal to a total power setting of the relay station. The relay station also employs load balancing techniques by comparing a threshold power setting with a current load setting. If the threshold power setting is greater than the current load setting, the relay station increases the cell coverage based on the available bandwidth.

Dynamic RS coverage in multi-hop cellular networks

For use in a wireless network, a base station that reduces the call set-up time for a time-sensitive application. The base station comprises a message controller for receiving an incoming control message that initiates the time-sensitive application in a mobile station. In lieu of a conventional page message, the message controller transmits a short data burst message to the mobile station to initiate the time-sensitive application. The short data burst message is transmitted in a forward control channel. The mobile station completes the set-up by transmitting back an L2 Acknowledgment message in lieu of a conventional page response message.
