Compositions and methods are described which provide a protective coating to coils or springs via a polymerization process such as by covalent bonding that includes grafting to the metal surface.

Formulation and methods for coating metal surfaces

This invention relates to a coating comprising prepolymer and monomers for application onto polyurethane for chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, water proof etc. Usually polyurethane is porous and does not have sufficient stain, abrasion and chemical resistance. The said coatings developed using technology of chemical grafting that involves the use of prepolymers, monomers, catalyst, graft initiator, wetting agents, fillers and other ingredients of the composition. The coating thus obtained when applied on the polyurethane allows obtaining graft polymerization, thereby forming a polymeric film chemically attached to the substrate. The polyurethane substrate is reacted with craft initiator which creates the reaction sites on the substrate via free radical mechanism. This in turn renders the substrate receptive to attachment of monomers/prepolymers forming polymeric film that is chemically bonded to the substrate which has then the desired property in terms of stain resistance, abrasion wear, crock, water, chemical resistance and other properties.

Protective graft coating for application onto polyurethane for chemical resistance, stain resistance, abrasion resistance and U.V. resistance

Compositions for grafting fragrance substances

Provided herein are graft coating formulations for windows that can help reduce or prevent bird strikes via a combination of UV reflectivity and fluorescence. These graft coating formulations may include an acrylic monomer, a diacrylic monomer, a graft initiator, and a catalyst, and when applied to a glass or plastic substrate, may reflect more than about 70% incident light having a wavelength of less than 400 nm, and also may fluoresce when exposed to light having a wavelength of less than about 400 nm. This combination of reflectivity and fluorescence may render the window visible to birds, while still appearing transparent to humans.

Method and composition re polyurethane seating

A coating formulation for application to surfaces associated with combustion, such as fuel injectors, and surfaces subjected to elevated temperatures, such as fuel supply components, to prevent the deposition at high temperatures of carbon or graphite on such surfaces, such as stainless steel and alloyed steel compositions. The coating formulation forms a thin layer of polymer coating on the surface by chemical grafting involving the use of a graft initiator to create active bonding sites, on the metal surface, for the silicone-based prepolymer to undergo polymerization on the metal surface. The bonding and polymerization are completed in a single application process without using complex equipment. The coating and process helps surfaces associated with combustion and surfaces subjected to elevated temperature reduce carbon or coke formation at temperatures up to 700&deg; F. and thereby improves the durability and performance of those surfaces.
