A coupling is provided for coupling non-adjacent resonators of a radio frequency filter. The coupling joins together non-adjacent resonators with a metal strip. The metal strip is physically connected to but electrically isolated from resonators located between the connected non-adjacent resonators. The metal strips include tabs the length of which may be varied. The coupling works with different resonator configurations including horizontally aligned resonators. The coupling allows for the jumping of an even number of resonators can produce zeros at high and low bands. A single coupling of this configuration enables two negative couplings.

A broad band diplexer employing suspended strip-line capacitors is disclosed. The diplexer has a low pass filter circuit and a high band pass filter circuit. The high band pass filter circuit has a first set of conductive pathways formed on the first surface of a suspended dielectric substrate, a second conductive pathway formed on the second surface of the substrate such that first and second conductive pathways are capacitively coupled, and plural resonators. The high pass filter circuit provides plural transmission poles within the band of operation exceeding the number of resonators.

More specifically, in one aspect, the present disclosure relates to the integration of combline cavity filters directly with antenna elements without galvanic connections. An improved microwave cavity filter used in cellular communication systems such as base stations is disclosed. The cavity filter has a conductive housing forming a cavity therein and a hollow conductive resonator configured in the cavity with a folded hat shaped upper portion. A tuning screw extends from the top cover of the housing into the top folded hat portion of the hollow resonator to fine tune the resonator. The resonator also may preferably include two different diameter sections providing a first high impedance section with smaller diameter and a second lower impedance section with a larger diameter configured at an upper end of the resonator. This configuration provides a significantly smaller cavity height for a given power handling capability. The resonator is preferably of constant thickness allowing low cost stamping or other forming techniques to be used in forming the resonator.

A coupling loop with each leg connected by two resistors, Rand Rgoing to ground on a disk shaped printed circuit board provides a directional coupler with directivity tuned by rotating this disk assembly and coupling controlled by the distance to the main RF transmission line. Once the desired level of directivity is obtained, this board is locked with screws from the top.
