Some embodiments of this disclosure include systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for use in a wireless network for communicating data over control plane in a 5G system. For example, some embodiments are directed to a user equipment (UE). The UE includes processor circuitry and radio front end circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, a first message for connecting to a 5G network and indicating a capability of the UE relating to Cellular Internet of Things (CIOT). The processor circuitry can be further configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry and via a control plane to the 5G network, a second message comprising mobile originated data. The processor circuitry can be further configured to receive, using the radio front end circuitry, a third message from the 5G network.

Methods and systems for data transfer over non-access stratum (NAS) control plane for cellular internet of things (CIOT) in a 5G system (5GS)

Some embodiments of this disclosure include apparatuses and methods for mechanisms to converge the Wi-Fi access network with the 5G New Radio (NR) access network within the radio access network. Some embodiments are direct to a base station (BS) apparatus. The BS apparatus can include at least a cellular distributed unit (DU); a cellular central unit Communicating with a 5G core network (5GC) via a (CU), coupled to the cellular DU; a wireless local area network (WLAN) CU, coupled to a WLAN DU; and the WLAN CU, coupled to the cellular CU.

Mechanisms to converge the Wi-Fi access network with the 5G NR access network within the radio access network

An apparatus of user equipment (UE) comprises one or more baseband processors to process at least one non-public network (NPN) identifier (NPN-ID) broadcast by an NPN and zero or more Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) identifier (PLMN-ID) broadcast by a PLMN, to compare the NPN-ID against a logical list of NPN-IDs and PLMN-IDs ranked in decreasing order of priority, and to connect with the highest ranked processed NPN or PLMN based on a rank of the NPN-ID in the list. The apparatus can include a memory to store the list of NPN-IDs and PLMN-IDs as a logical list of Equivalent Home Networks or as Operator Controlled Network Selector with Access Technology list.

Network selection and service continuity in non-public networks

Various embodiments are generally directed to network slice selector (NSS). In one embodiment, for example, an evolved node B (cNB) may include a processor circuit, and an NSS for execution by the processor circuit to allocate a network slice (NS) to a user equipment (UE). The NS may comprise one or more virtual network function(s) (VNF). In one implementation, a VNF takes on the responsibility of handing specific network functions run on one or more virtual machines (VM) associated with hardware networking infrastructures, such as routers, switches, etc. Individual VNFs may be combined or connected together to provide a complete networking communication service for UEs. Network slice selection in network systems

Embodiments related to gateway arrangements for wireless communication networks are disclosed herein. For example, in some embodiments, a network controller computing system may include serving gateway (SGW) control plane circuitry to virtualize control plane functions of an SGW, packet data network gateway (PGW) control plane circuitry to virtualize control plane functions of a PGW, first communication circuitry to establish a first secure communication link between the SGW control plane circuitry and an SGW user plane computing system that is to perform user plane functions of an SGW, and second communication circuitry to establish a second secure communication link between the PGW control plane circuitry and a PGW user plane computing system that is to perform user plane functions of a PGW. Other embodiments may be disclosed and/or claimed.

Gateway arrangements for wireless communication networks

In one embodiment, an apparatus of a User Equipment (UE) device includes memory storing non-public network (NPN) configuration information, a radio frequency (RF) interface, and processing circuitry coupled to the memory and the RF interface. The RF interface receives information broadcast by a radio access network (RAN) node of the particular NPN, where the information includes a NPN indicator indicating that the RAN node supports a NPN and NPN service information indicating services supported by the particular NPN. The processing circuitry establishes, in response to detecting the NPN indicator in the information received from the RAN node, a connection to the particular NPN based on the NPN configuration information and the NPN service information received from the RAN node.

Network discovery, selection, and access control in vertical domain

Systems and methods provide solutions for reliable data transfer in a mobile communication network. A user equipment (UE) may indicate to the mobile communication network a capability of the UE to support a reliable data service protocol. The UE may process non-access stratum (NAS) messages, for both mobile originated (MO) data transfer and mobile terminated (MT) data transfer, using the reliable data service protocol to determine whether protocol data units (PDUs) of the NAS messages require no acknowledgement, require acknowledgment, or include an acknowledgement, and to detect and eliminate duplicate PDUs received at the UE in the NAS messages.

Efficient and reliable data transfer in 5G systems

Methods, systems, and storage media are provided for user equipment (UE) that supports enhanced coverage and may operate with a voice centric usage setting or a data centric usage setting. When the UE's usage setting is set to voice centric, the UE may not operate in coverage enhancement (CE) mode B. When the UE's usage setting is set to data centric, then the UE may operate in CE mode B. The UE may indicate the UE's usage setting in an Attach or Tracking Area Update (TAU) request message, and a mobility management entity (MME) may indicate to an evolved NodeB that CE mode B is restricted or not restricted based on the usage setting. Lightweight S-1 lite protocol design for cellular internet of things

Systems, devices, and configurations to implement trusted connections within wireless networks and associated devices and systems are generally disclosed herein. In some examples, a wireless local area network (WLAN) may be attached to a 3GPP evolved packet core (EPC) as a trusted access network, without use of an evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) and overhead from related tunneling and encryption. Information to create the trusted attachment between a mobile device and a WLAN may be exchanged using Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP) extensions defined by IEEE standard 802.11u-2011, or using other protocols or standards such as DHCP or EAP. A trusted WLAN container with defined data structure fields may be transferred in the ANQP elements to exchange information used in the establishment and operation of the trusted attachment.
