Various embodiments generally may relate to the field of wireless communications. For example, some embodiments may relate to enabling augmented computing as a service or network capability for sixth-generation (6G) networks. For example, some embodiments may be directed to the operation of a compute control client (Comp CC) at the UE side, and a compute control function (Comp CF) and compute service function (Comp SF) at the network side, which are referred to herein as 'compute plane' functions to handle computing related control and user traffic.

Computing workload management in next generation cellular networks

Embodiments herein provide techniques related to a NEF. An example technique includes identifying, from an AF that implements a ML model, a request related to reservation of resources for a plurality of AF sessions, wherein the plurality of AF sessions relate to respective UEs of a plurality of UEs, and wherein the request includes an indication of addresses of respective UEs of the plurality of UEs and a QoS parameter; transmitting, to a BSF of the cellular network, a discovery request related to discovery of respective PCFs that are serving the respective UEs of the plurality of UEs; identifying, based on the discovery request, a discovery response that includes indications of the PCFs; identifying, based on the indications of the PCFs and the QoS parameter, a result related to the reservation of resources; and transmitting, to the AF, an indication of the result. A next generation NodeB (gNB) implements a radio access network (RAN) convergence functionality for new radio (NR) and wireless local area network (WLAN) access, the gNB further implementing a split architecture comprising a central unit (CU) and a distributed unit (DU) for each of the NR access and WLAN access. The gNB receives a data packet for transmission to a user equipment (UE) implementing the RAN convergence functionality, the data packet comprising one of a control plane (CP) packet or a user plane (UP) packet. The gNB splits the data packet via a convergence layer residing on the NR CU or a convergence layer residing on the WLAN CU and transmits the split data packet over the NR access and the WLAN access.

Techniques, systems, and devices to support user equipment (UE) in an extended discontinuous reception mode are described. A described technique performed by a radio access network (RAN) includes managing UE that is in an extended discontinuous reception mode and in an inactive state; sending a notification message to an access and mobility management function (AMF), the message comprising buffer support information for a user plane function (UPF) to buffer data; receiving a notification request message from the AMF, the notification request message comprising a request to obtain information regarding reachability of the UE; sending a notification response message to control when the UPF provides downlink data to the RAN for transmission to the UE; performing a connection resume procedure with the UE to cause the UE to switch to a connected state from the inactive state; receiving the downlink data; and transmitting the downlink data to the UE.

An apparatus and system to enable dynamic offloading and execution of compute tasks are described. In split CU-DU RAN architectures, the CU-CP is connected with multiple compute control functions (CF) and service functions (SF) that have different computing hardware/software capabilities. Different architectures depend on whether the SF is collocated with the CU-UP, the CU-UP and SF only serve compute messages, a compute message is supplied directly to the CU-UP or also traverses the CU-CP. In response to reception from a UE of a compute message containing data for computation being sent to the CU-CP through the DU, the CU-CP sends the data to the SF with identifiers and sends the result to the UE.

Computing workload transport over control plane in next generation cellular networks

Systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for a user equipment (UE) of a wireless communication system. The UE includes a processor circuitry, and radio front end circuitry coupled to the processor circuitry. The processor circuitry is configured to determine and indicate, to a core network via a radio access network (RAN), one or more cellular internet of things (CIoT) features that are required by the UE and CIoT network behavior expected from the core network to support the one or more CIoT features that are required by the UE. The processor circuitry is configured to select either an enhanced packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC) to establish a wireless connection with the core network, based on a first set of CIoT features supported by the EPC and a second set of CIoT features supported by the 5GC received from the core network.
