A check valve assembly includes a housing having a fluid inlet arranged to be fluidly connected, in use, to a source of hydraulic fluid, a first stage body having a first stage fluid outlet and a second stage body having a second stage fluid outlet and a flow passage between the first and second stage bodies. The first stage body is a hollow body having a first end in fluid communication with the fluid inlet and housing a hollow first stage retainer around which is mounted a first stage spring that biases a first stage ball. The second stage body is a hollow body housing a second stage retainer around which is mounted a second stage spring that biases a second stage ball, and wherein a first stage pressure differential between the first stage fluid outlet and the fluid inlet creates a fluid flow path from the inlet outlet.

An actuator release mechanism includes: a longitudinal sleeve movable along an axis between a lock and release positions; drive means for causing the longitudinal sleeve to move along the axis; and bias means to bias the longitudinal sleeve to the lock position. The drive means includes: a rotary solenoid having a first direction of rotation and a second direction of rotation; a toggle member having a toggle shaft connected to and rotatable with the rotary solenoid, and a toggle head in engagement with the longitudinal sleeve by pins extending radially inwards from the longitudinal sleeve and a helical guide rail provided on a radially outer surface of the toggle head. The longitudinal sleeve is mounted around the toggle head, such that rotation of the solenoid causes rotation of the toggle member and the guide rails which causes the pin(s) to ride along the guide rail to rotate the sleeve.

Actuator release mechanism

A check valve comprises an annular housing defining a generally circular opening. A plurality of radially extending arms extend across the circular opening from the centre of the valve housing to respective nodes at the periphery of the valve housing. A plurality of cross arms extend between circumferentially adjacent nodes, thereby dividing the circular opening into a plurality of primary, generally triangular radially inner openings and a plurality of secondary, generally segment shaped radially outer openings. A plurality of primary, generally triangular flapper elements close the primary openings and a plurality of secondary, generally segment shaped flapper elements close the secondary openings. Respective mounting posts are arranged at a respective node and a respective hinge pin is mounted between respective circumferentially adjacent mounting posts.

Check valves

An actuator release mechanism includes an axially moveable member biased in a first axial position by a bias spring and driven to a second axial position by an actuation means such as a solenoid arranged in substantially the same axis as the axially moveable member. The axially moveable member can be a piston.
