The present disclosure relates to a lighting device () comprising a lighting unit (), at least one application unit (), and a battery housing () comprising a first battery compartment () with a first electrical contact set () for accommodating and connecting a first battery and with a second battery compartment () with a second electrical contact set () for accommodating and connecting a second battery, wherein the first and second battery compartments are configured to force an exclusive spatial accommodation of only one of the first and second batteries in the battery housing at a given point in time. The lighting unit is electrically connected to the first electrical contact set for being powered by the first battery in a first operational mode and the application unit is electrically connected to the second electrical contact set for being powered by the second battery in a second operational mode.

Lighting device with battery housing

A power conversion system is to be used with an energy source. A plurality of conversion units are used in series via their output with the energy source output. A positive pin of a first converter and the negative pin of a last converter of the series are for connection to an output () of the energy source, and for each two neighboring converters in this series a negative pin of an upstream converter is connected to a positive pin of a downstream converter which both pins are decoupled from the energy source except for the positive pin of the first converter and the negative pin of the last converter. A master monitor unit is adapted to monitor the output power of the energy source and to control the input voltage of each conversion unit synchronously in dependence on the monitored output power. In this way, a set of conversion units are configured, with the conversion units sharing the output from the energy source. This provides a scalable system.

Power conversion system and method

A lighting system has a set of multiple LED luminaires, and combines solar panel power and external grid power. A solar converter converts the output from the solar panel into a first power. Each luminaire is associated with a driver to inject current into the LED lighting unit from the external grid power supply. The LED lighting units of the luminaires are connected together to the solar converter and are thereby driven together by the first power simultaneously. This simplifies the structure.

Lighting system and method

The present invention relates to an application device comprising an integrated energy storage, an application controller and a method of operating an application system, supporting different operation modes. In a first operation mode, AC power is provided via a distribution line to operate the application device. In a second mode, the AC power transmission at the distribution line is replaced by data communication, wherein the application device is run by energy from the energy storage during the second operation mode. Preferably in a third operation mode, DC power from the energy storage of an application device may be provided via the distribution line to another application device.

Energy-storage integrated application device and operation thereof

The present invention relates to a functional device () powered by a constant current driver (). The device () comprises constant current driver (), electrical energy storage unit (), functional unit (), and control unit (). The device () is controlled by the control unit () such that the constant current driver () provides a constant current to the functional unit () and the storage unit () in dependence of a pulse width modulated voltage signal. Current is provided to the storage unit () for charging the storage unit () during at least part of off periods of the pulse width modulated voltage signal. During on periods of the pulse width modulated voltage signal, current is provided to the functional unit () and no current is provided to the storage unit (). This allows providing the device with a constant current driver with less idle periods and lower current supply.

Constant current driver charging energy storage unit

A power conversion system has a plurality of power tracking converters connected in parallel to an output of an energy source such as a solar system. A communication system between the converters implements a sequence of operation of the converters, such that in response to a communication signal from a preceding converter in the sequence, each converter performs tuning of its power tracking function and then provides a communication signal to the next converter in the sequence. Each converter for example functions as a maximum power point tracking system. The system may be made from a set of smaller units so that different systems may be formed from a small set of standard components. By operating the converters in a sequence, conflict between the converters and instability is avoided.

A lighting network () and methods therefore are disclosed. The lighting network () a plurality of lighting units () that can operate on AC power and DC back up power if the AC power is removed. A controller () is used to redistribute the DC power between the plurality of lighting units () in the event that DC power is low or exhausted in one of the plurality of lighting units ().

A retrofit Light Emitting Diode, LED, lighting device for connection to an electronic ballast, wherein said retrofit LED lighting device comprising an LED array for emitting light, an alternating current, AC, LED driver arranged for receiving an AC supply voltage or an AC supply current, from said electronic ballast and for driving said LED array based on said received AC supply voltage or said AC supply current, at least one switch, wherein in a closed position of said at least one switch, said retrofit LED lighting device provides a closed loop current circuit for an electronic ballast connected to said retrofit LED lighting device and in an open position of said at least one switch, said retrofit LED lighting device provides an open loop current circuit for an electronic ballast connected to said retrofit LED lighting device thereby simulating an absence of said LED lighting device to said electronic ballast, an auxiliary power supply and a stand-alone external trigger circuit, connected to said auxiliary power supply, and only dedicated for receiving an external trigger and for controlling said at least one switch based on said received external trigger.

Retrofit light emitting diode, LED, lighting device with reduced power consumption in standby mode

A lighting network and methods therefore are disclosed. The lighting network includes a plurality of lighting units that can operate on AC power and DC back up power if the AC power is removed. A controller is used to redistribute the DC power between the plurality of lighting units in the event that DC power is low or exhausted in one of the plurality of lighting units.

A method is provided, repeated over successive time slots, for controlling the distribution of power from a time varying renewable power source between a battery and a power grid. The method comprises comparing the maximum input power of a battery with the power output of the time varying power source and determining a ratio for distributing the power between the battery and the power grid based on the comparison. Wherein distributing the output power to the energy storage device as a priority when the output power of the power source is below the maximum input power of the energy storage device; and increasing the ratio for the grid and decreasing the ratio for the energy storage device as the output power of the power source increases above the maximum input power of the energy storage device. The surplus power produced by the power source, above the maximum input power of the energy storage device, is discarded when the output power is distributed to the energy storage device.

Method and system for optimally distributing power between a battery and a power grid

A driver circuit has a driver unit () which provides a current for the load () based on an input voltage () comprising first and second terminals (). The driver unit () comprises a linear driver which comprises a current regulating element (Q) between the input and the load, said element having a controllable resistive characteristic. A compensation unit () in series with the driver unit () and the input voltage provides a compensating voltage. This is used to control the voltage across the driver unit in dependence on the input voltage and operating conditions of the load. The compensation unit () comprises a switch mode power converter and a second capacitor (C) as an energy source of the switch mode power converter, with the current regulating element (Q), the load () and the second capacitor (C) in series connection between the first and second terminals (). In this way, the operating range of the driver unit can be reduced to reduce power loss on the driver unit, and the compensating voltage can also be used with an energy harvesting system to increase overall system efficiency.

The invention provides a lighting controller, comprising: a detector adapted to detect a voltage of a power source, said power source is for providing power to a lighting unit via a lighting driver; a controlling unit, coupled to the lighting driver and adapted for controlling the driver to deliver a constant power to the lighting unit regardless of the power source is being consumed, before the detected voltage drops below a first threshold, and controlling the driver to deliver a gradually reduced power to the lighting unit after the detected voltage drops below the first threshold. Wherein the controlling unit is further adapted for switching an up-converter between the power source and the driver to boost the output voltage from the power source to the driver, in a first condition; and bypassing said up-converter, in a second condition, and implementing said step of controlling the driver; wherein said first condition comprises operating in high occupancy periods, and said second condition comprises operating in low occupancy period.

Devices () convert source power from first sources () that receive solar/wind/water energy into load power destined for loads (). The devices () comprise first converters () for converting first direct-current voltage signals from the first sources () to second direct-current voltage signals destined for the loads (), first arrangements () for controlling the first converters () and regulating the second direct-current voltage signals in response to first control voltage signals, and first circuits () for providing the first control voltage signals. To prevent a collapse of the first direct-current voltage signals when having relatively small amplitudes, the first control voltage signals should have amplitudes equal to/larger than minimum values. The amplitudes of the first control voltage signal may be fixed, firstly fixed and secondly proportional to the amplitude of the first direct-current voltage signal, or inversely proportional/proportional to a square of the amplitude of the first direct-current voltage signal.

Power conversion for solar / wind / water energy

The improved devices () are no longer informed afterwards by the gates (-) but are informed beforehand by the gates (-) and control these gates (-) in response to the analysis results.
