A method of repairing oxidatively-treated hair, the methods comprising the sequential steps of: (i) soaking hair in an aqueous treatment composition, (ii) rinsing the hair of step (i); characterised in that the aqueous treatment composition comprises 0.1 to 6 wt % N-acetyl amino acid, based on the total weight of the composition, wherein the N-acetyl amino acid is selected from the group consisting of N-acetyl glycine, N-acetyl alanine, N-acetyl proline, N-acetyl leucine, N-acetyl isoleucine, N-acetyl valine, N-acetyl tyrosine, N-acetyl phenylalanine, N-acetyl tryptophan, N-acetyl serine, N-acetyl glutamine, N-acetyl threonine, N-acetyl asparagine, N-acetyl methionine, N-acetyl lysine, N-acetyl histidine and mixtures thereof, gives damage repair benefits.

Method of repairing oxidatively treated hair

The present invention is in the field of hair treatment compositions; in particular relates to hair treatment compositions for hair volume reduction. Despite the prior art, there still exists the opportunity to increase the conditioning benefits delivered through hair treatment compositions. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a hair treatment composition that retains shape and reduces frizz even after exposure to humidity and washing the hair. It has been found that reduced hair frizz and hair shape retention even after exposure to moisture can be obtained by using N-formyl amino acids.

Hair treatment composition

The present invention is in the field of hair treatment compositions; in particular relates to a method for hair volume reduction. Despite the prior art, there still exists the opportunity to increase the conditioning benefits delivered through hair treatment compositions. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method that retains shape and reduces frizz even after exposure to humidity and washing the hair. It has been found that reduced hair frizz and hair shape retention even after exposure to moisture can be obtained by using N-formyl amino acids.

Method for hair volume reduction

The invention provides a method of strengthening the fibres of oxidatively-treated hair, the method comprising the sequential steps of: (i) washing the oxidatively-treated hair; (ii) soaking the washed hair in an aqueous treatment composition, and (iii) drying the soaked hair; characterised in that the aqueous treatment composition comprises at least 1% N-acetyl glycine (by weight based on the total weight of the composition).The invention also provides the use of an aqueous treatment composition comprising at least 1% N-acetyl glycine (by weight based on the total weight of the composition), for the enhanced strengthening of oxidatively-treated hair fibres relative to virgin hair fibres.

Method of strengthening oxidatively-treated hair

The invention provides a method for improving the volume of hair which comprises the following steps: (i) treating the hair by topical application of a composition comprising from 1 to 25 wt % of one or more glucosamine salts; (ii) shaping the treated hair; (iii) allowing the composition to remain in contact with the shaped hair before drying. Advantageously the method of the invention does not require the breakage of the hair disulfide bonds, does not require the use of high temperature heated implements such as straightening irons, and can be accomplished by a consumer without intervention of a professional hairdresser.

Method of improving hair volume

A method for styling hair comprising: &#x2014;applying to hair a hair treatment composition comprising from 4 to 25 wt % a citric or aconitic acid and having a pH of from 1 to 3; &#x2014;leaving the product on the hair for from 5 to 90 minutes; &#x2014;rinsing the product from the hair; and &#x2014;styling.

Method of treating hair

The invention provides a method of shaping hair comprising the following sequential steps: (i) treating the hair by topical application of a hair treatment composition comprising from 2 to 25 wt % of one or more Cmonoaldehydes, and (ii) mechanically shaping the treated hair.

The invention provides a hair shaping composition suitable for topical application to hair, the composition comprising from 1 to 25 wt % of one or more Cmonoaldehydes and from 1 to 25 wt % of one or more urea compounds; dissolved or dispersed in an aqueous carrier.

Hair shaping composition

The invention provides a hair shaping composition suitably for topical application to hair, the composition having a pH of 4 or less and comprising, in an aqueous continuous phase: (i) at least 0.5% by weight based on the total weight of the composition of a first component selected from D-glucono-&#x3b4;-lactone, D-glucono-&#x3b3;-lactone, D-gluconic acid and mixtures thereof; (ii) at least 0.1% by weight based on the total weight of the composition of a second component selected from glyoxylic acid, glyoxylic acid hydrate, salts thereof and mixtures thereof; in which the weight ratio of first component (i) to second component (ii) in the hair shaping composition ranges from 10:1 to 1:10.

The invention provides a hair shaping composition suitable for topical application to hair, the composition having a pH of 4 or less and comprising, in an aqueous continuous phase: (i) at least 0.5% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of one or more polyhydroxy acid lactones; (ii) at least 0.5% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of one or more aliphatic di- or tricarboxylic acids, and (iii) at least 0.1% (by weight based on the total weight of the composition) of glyoxylic acid or a salt or hydrate thereof.

The invention provides a hair shaping composition suitable for topical application to hair, the composition comprising from 1 to 25 wt % monoglucosamine adipate, dissolved or dispersed in an aqueous carrier. The invention also provides a method for improving hair volume-down which comprises the following steps: (i) treating the hair by topical application of the hair shaping composition as defined above; (ii) shaping the treated hair; (iii) allowing the composition to remain in contact with the shaped hair before drying. The present invention is directed to a method for straightening hair, wherein the method of straightening hair comprises the step of: (1) applying to the hair a hair treatment composition comprising: i) gluconolactone, in which the level of gluconolactone is from 1.5 to 5 wt % of the total hair treatment composition; and ii) citric acid, in which the level of citric acid is from 1 to 5 wt % of the total hair treatment composition; and (2) applying heat to the hair at a temperature of greater than 120&#xb0; C. for at least 10 seconds after the hair treatment composition is applied to the hair, wherein the hair treatment composition is applied to dry hair.

A method of straightening the hair comprising the step of applying to the hair a hair treatment composition comprising: i) at least 0.4 wt % of the total composition of a sugar alcohol; and ii) at least 0.4 wt % of the total composition of a bi or tridentate carboxylic acid in which the ratio of sugar alcohol to acid is 1:5 to 5:1; and iii) heating the resulting composition to a temperature of greater than 120&#xb0; C. for at least 10 seconds.

A hair treatment composition comprising: i) an oligosaccharide comprising 3 to 7 sugar units in which the linkage group between the sugar units is an a 1-4 link; and ii) an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive comprising: i) an acrylic group having a side-chain with at least 4 carbons (eg n-butyl acrylate or 2-ethylhexyl acrylate) and; ii) a short side-chain acrylic such as methyl acrylate. the weight ratio of short side chain acrylic group ii) to the acrylic group i).

A hair treatment composition comprising: i) a polyacrylate cross polymer; and ii) an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive comprising: a) an acrylic group having a side-chain with at least 4 carbons (eg n-butyl acrylate or 2-ethylhexyl acrylate) and; b) a short side-chain acrylic such as methyl acrylate.
