A method for application connection includes receiving, by a first electronic device, a list of application active sessions based on the active sessions being in an area of a global positioning system (GPS) location of the first electronic device. The first electronic device receives a selection of an active session associated with a first application running on a second electronic device. In response to the selection of the active session, the first electronic device receives information including at least a service set identification (SSID) and a network security key associated with the secure local network. The first electronic device connects to the secure local network without user input of the SSID and the network security key from a user of the first electronic device. The first electronic device connects to the first application running on the second electronic device via the secure local network.

A method for wirelessly connecting a first device with an external second device includes wirelessly communicating between the first device and the external second device. The TV receives the video stream and transmits it to a remote endpoint host (the other end of the video call) using a conventional video call application. A TV without a camera is able to function as a local endpoint proxy in a video call with a remote device. In another scenario, the TV discovers and connects to a remote camera device. The remote camera, such as a cell phone, streams video to the TV which functions as a local endpoint proxy in the video call. The TV transmits the video to the device at the other end of the call.

In one embodiment, a method of logging in one or more user profiles on a multimedia system includes associating one or more actuation sequences of one or more buttons on a remote control device each with a user profile, each user profile having one or more characteristics for outputting multimedia content, the characteristics affecting multimedia content provided by a multimedia system to personalize the user's multimedia experience, communicating a first signal corresponding to one of the one or more actuation sequences from the remote control device to a multimedia system to identify a first user profile for login, logging in the first user profile as an active user profile on the multimedia system based on the first signal, and controlling multimedia content provided to an output system of the multimedia system based on the active user profile.

Embodiments include a system and method of synchronizing broadcast signals from multiple broadcast networks on televisions or other media devices. One embodiment includes a method comprising receiving signatures or other data indicative of each of a plurality of video frames from each of a plurality of video devices, each of the video devices having received the frame from a video broadcast. At least one of the video frames is identified as being received by each of the video devices based on the received data. A request or other data indicative of a time to display the one of the video frames is communicated to each of the plurality of video devices. Other embodiments include media devices configured to send such frame data and to display video frames at the indicated time.
