Audio information coexists with best efforts data on a wireless network, such as a wireless local area network, by defining a backoff dedicated to communicate of audio information and using undedicated resources to communicate best efforts data. The backoff has a periodic interval that corresponds to the sample rate of the audio information so that a set of audio frame slots communicated at the start of a backoff interval has a length of time to complete communication. The set of audio frame slots has, for instance, an audio frame slot for each audio endpoint interfaced with the network. Periodic backoffs ensures synchronized audio playback by dedicating an antenna to communication of audio frames at the sample rate of the audio information, while supporting best efforts network communication when audio information is not being communicated.

Methods for coupling information handling systems through a communications stack

Systems and methods are disclosed that provide WUSB (wireless universal serial bus) and wireless audio/video interfaces within a single device by integrating a Bluetooth subsystem with a WUSB hub and by providing shared operation between the UWB (ultra wide band) and Bluetooth subsystems. In one embodiment, a system includes both a UWB subsystem and a Bluetooth subsystem that are configured to share one or more operational parameters, such as device pairing information. As such, Bluetooth subsystems and the WUSB subsystems are allowed to cooperate and share information to streamline operation, and this streamlining allows the Bluetooth subsystem to handle isochronous operations, such as audio/video communications, and allows the UWB subsystem to continue to handle USB connected peripheral devices. The disclosed systems with WUSB and wireless audio/video interfaces can also be included as subsystems within other devices, such as display monitors or speaker systems for computer systems.

An information handling system (IHS) is provided which includes a system processor and a wireless section coupled to the system processor. While the system processor remains in a reduced power state, the wireless section is operable to be powered up to detect the presence of a wireless network external to the IHS and determine if that detected wireless network matches a network included in profile information stored in a memory that is accessible by the wireless section. An indicator is coupled to the wireless section and is operable to provide an indication that a wireless network is present.

Methods and systems are disclosed for selecting performance settings for one or more wireless technologies, presenting a graphical representation of the relative performance of the wireless technologies for each performance setting, and allowing a selection of at least one of the performance settings. The performance settings can be associated with wireless technologies, or location types. Performance characteristics may include noise, power, quality, speed, and interference. The performance setting of one wireless technology may be manually adjusted and the impact on other wireless technologies can be a graphical displayed or numerical display. Adjustments can be made by a user or a platform designer. In a preset mode, a user make select between preset performance settings that are graphically displayed. In an advanced mode, adjustments to wireless performance characteristics of all the wireless interfaces on a specific platform may be selectively made with the relative effects on other wireless interfaces graphically displayed.

An improved method and system for removing operating restrictions associated with a predetermined subscriber identity module (SIM) from a wireless device. A user is allowed to securely log onto a Web site that contains support information on subscription plans, billing, termination, penalties, and device-to-SIM unlocking. After satisfying any outstanding contract terms and payment of termination or device unlock fees, the user initiates a device-to-SIM unlock procedure. A client application on the wireless device securely transfers subscription, system, and SIM information to a device-to-SIM unlock system which uses the information to generate appropriate unlock codes. The unlock codes are then securely transferred to the client application, which processes them to remove operating restrictions associated with the predetermined SIM from the device and allow it to thereafter implement a plurality of SIMs.

A technique is disclosed for setting up and configuring a LAN. More particularly, secure communications may be configured between an access point (AP) and a client device. Virtual AP technology is utilized to assist the configuration of the network. In particular, at least two wireless networks are provided in a single A, a configuration LAN and an operational LAN, by utilizing virtual AP technology. The configuration LAN is utilized to provide communication between the AP and the client devices that is related to network setup, configuration, modification, etc. and the operational LAN provides normal LAN data communication. The configuration LAN may be provided in a relatively insecure manner that eases setup of that communication channel and the operational LAN may be provided in a more fully secure communication channel. Different types of service set identifiers (SSIDs) may be provided for configuration LANs and operational LANs so as to more easily identify the type of LAN through its SSID.

A split architecture wireless access point (SAAP) extends a traditional wireless access point (TRAP) network by selectively interfacing or isolating a SAAP network with a deployed TRAP of the TRAP wireless network. The SAAP has a split architecture that interfaces with the TRAP as a client of the TRAP network and supports the SAAP network as a router. For instance, a client module communicates as a client of the TRAP wireless network over a TRAP channel and a router module routes information between clients of the SAAP network over a SAAP channel, the SAAP wireless network to advantageously benefit streaming of audiovisual information and other usages of the TRAP and SAAP wireless networks. A control module selectively allows communication between the router and client modules to support communication between information handling systems associated with the SAAP wireless network and the TRAP wireless network.

System and method for integrating devices into a wireless network

Information handling systems are built to order with provisioned wireless wide area network (WWAN) service coordinated through a WWAN network provider as part of the manufacture of the information handling system. A WWAN component is built into the information handling system and then queried to retrieve a WWAN identifier, such as ESM or SIM information. The identifier is associated with end user information of the information handling system and formatted as a request for WWAN provisioning sent to a network service provider. The network service provider applies the WWAN identifier and end user information to contact the end user for setting up a WWAN account or, alternatively, to automatically set up a WWAN account for the end user.

System and method for managing information handling system wireless network provisioning

A power supply module chassis defines a power supply module housing and is coupled to the display chassis outside of the display chassis housing. An improved system and method for predicting streaming media performance through the use of real-time wireless network performance measurements and statistical analysis, combined with a generalized methodology for comparing digital media quality before and after transmission. Network performance parameters of a benchmark media stream, such as throughput and signal strength, are measured for predetermined wireless network ranges and correlated to the introduction of various artifacts such as but not limited to, blurring, blockiness, and jerkiness, affecting streaming video quality. In various embodiments of the invention, network throughput and signal strength measurements of a received media stream can be processed by an algorithm and correlated to previously collected benchmark measurements to predict the resulting audio and video quality as experienced by a user.
