Systems, methods and computer software are disclosed for providing an energy efficient base station with synchronization. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed, comprising: performing traffic analysis to determine off-peak hours duration when traffic is light; updating downlink and uplink schedulers to transmit a minimum required signaling and control information; and wherein updating downlink and uplink scheduler for minimum required signaling and control information further comprises scheduling, in a downlink direction, at least one of transmitting only reference symbols over selected OFDM symbols, PDCCH on up to a first three OFDM symbols, PSS and SSS on a central six PRBs and PBCH.

Energy-efficient base station with synchronization

A gateway for X2 interface communication is provided, including: an X2 internal interface for communicating with, and coupled to, a plurality of radio access networks (RANs); and an X2 external interface for communicating with, and coupled to, a destination outside of the plurality of RANs, the X2 external interface further including a single X2 endpoint for the plurality of radio access networks, such that the X2 external interface provides a single interface for an external macro cell or core network to interact with the plurality of radio access networks. The gateway may further include a handover module for maintaining X2 signaling associations and transactions for incoming and outbound handovers, including X2 to S1 and S1 to X2 translation.

Systems and methods are disclosed to address inter-cell interference in a heterogeneous network. In one embodiment, a system is disclosed, comprising: a coordinating node situated between a radio access network and a core network; and a first base station in the radio access network in communication with the coordinating node, wherein: the coordinating node has a coordinating scheduler with a first scheduling period; the first base station has a first base station scheduler with a second scheduling period shorter than the first scheduling period; the coordinating scheduler is configured to send a resource reservation list and a resource restriction list to the first base station scheduler once during each first scheduling period; and the first base station is configured to receive the resource reservation list and the resource restriction list and to use the resource reservation list and the resource restriction list when performing mobile device resource scheduling.

Inter-cell fractional frequency reuse scheduler

A system is disclosed, comprising: a solar panel; an electric power supply source; a wireless fronthaul access point coupled to a radio mast and in communication with a remote baseband unit, the wireless fronthaul access point further comprising a first millimeter wave wireless interface; a self-organizing network module in communication with a coordinating server; and an antenna-integrated radio for providing access to user equipments (UEs), mounted within line of sight on the radio mast with the wireless fronthaul access point, the antenna-integrated radio further comprising: a second millimeter wave wireless interface configured to receive the digital I and Q signaling information from the remote baseband unit wirelessly via the wireless fronthaul access point, wherein the wireless fronthaul access point thereby wirelessly couples the remote baseband unit and the antenna-integrated radio. Synchronization is used to pack used resource blocks to reduce the duty cycle of the PAs, thereby reducing power.

Base station power management using solar panel and battery forecasting

Systems and methods are disclosed for a 3G gateway. In one embodiment, a system is disclosed, comprising a gateway situated between a 3G radio access network (RAN) and a core network, the gateway providing resource management for a nodeB, and providing routing and node management for another base station, wherein the base station may be configured to provide, as a virtual RNC, radio resource control, power control, ciphering, and multiplexing of multiple users onto a transmission path for a first mobile device attached to the nodeB; the gateway may be configured to relay traffic for a second mobile device attached to the base station; and the gateway may be configured to relay traffic to the core network from both the nodeB and the base station via an IuCS interface and an IuPS interface.

Systems and methods are disclosed for providing base station localization. In one embodiment the system includes a network including a base station such as a 5G gNodeB (gNB); a Hetnet Gateway (HNG) in communication with the gNB, wherein the HNG includes a location server and wherein the HNG virtualizes and abstracts a collection of base stations and provides a complex network under its purview as a simple base station to a mobile packet core network; a plurality of Hyper Sync Network (HSN) nodes in communication with the gNB and the HNG, wherein the plurality of HSN nodes listen to User Equipments (UEs) to locate the UEs and to synchronize clocks on the gNB with the collection of HSN nodes or other gNBs; and an Evolved Serving Mobile Location Center (E-SMLC) server in communication with the HNG and for reporting the location of a UE.

Sounding signals for sub-meter base station localization

Systems and methods are disclosed for adjusting transmit power in a wireless network. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed that includes identifying a selected base station with a first coverage area for adjustment of transmit power; identifying a plurality of neighboring base stations with coverage areas nearby the first coverage area; retrieving a plurality of signal strength measurements from a plurality of mobile devices within the coverage areas of the plurality of neighboring base stations; determining, based on the plurality of measurements, an effect on the plurality of mobile devices within the coverage areas of the plurality of neighboring base stations; and sending an instruction for adjustment of transmit power to the selected base station.

Adjusting transmit power across a network

Systems and methods are disclosed for enabling a mesh network node to switch from a base station role to a user equipment role relative to a second mesh network node, and vice versa. By switching roles in this manner, the mesh network node may be able to benefit from increased uplink or downlink speed in the new role. This role reversal technique is particularly useful when using wireless protocols such as LTE that are asymmetric and allow differing throughput on uplink and downlink connections. Methods for determining whether to perform role reversal are disclosed, and methods for using role reversal in mesh networks comprising greater than two nodes are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for providing LTE-based backhaul

Methods are disclosed creating sector-carriers with unequal pairing of uplink and downlink bandwidths. In one embodiment a method includes determining, at a SON controller, a downlink required rate and a corresponding estimated downlink bandwidth required; determining, at the SON controller, an uplink required rate and a corresponding estimated uplink bandwidth required; determining, at the SON controller, an aggregate bandwidth of spectrum suitable for downlink operation; determining, at the SON controller, an aggregate bandwidth of spectrum suitable for uplink operation; and determining from the downlink required rate; the corresponding estimated downlink bandwidth required; the uplink required rate; the corresponding estimated uplink bandwidth required; the aggregate bandwidth of spectrum suitable for downlink operation; and the aggregate bandwidth of spectrum suitable for uplink operation, at least one sector-carrier configuration wherein the uplink data rate is different than the downlink data rate.

A method for providing multicast services to mobile devices, comprising: providing, at a controller node, an interface representing a single network node to a multicast server node; receiving, at the controller node, link status messages from a first and a second network node; constructing, at the controller node, a multicast route at the controller node based on the received link status messages; receiving, at the controller node, a multicast data stream from the multicast server node; and sending the multicast data stream to at least two mobile devices via the constructed multicast route.
