Methods and apparatuses relate to sounding reference signal (SRS) transmit antenna selection in wireless communication systems. For example, a user equipment (UE) may select, from a set of antennas, a subset of antennas for SRS transmission based on at least one antenna selection parameter. The UE may further transmit, on an uplink communication channel, the SRS using the subset of antennas to a network entity. In some aspects, the at least one antenna selection parameter may include a reference signal receive power (RSRP) value, a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) value, a spectrum efficiency value, and/or an SNR value and a channel correlation value.

In order to balance the power requirements of a MIMO receiver with the gains that may be achieved through its use, an apparatus determines whether a current configuration of the UE supports iterative MIMO reception. When it is determined that the current configuration of the UE supports iterative MIMO reception, the apparatus determines whether at least one parameter of the received signal is within a corresponding target condition, respectively, for each of the at least one parameters, e.g., including determining whether a scheduling percentage meets a scheduling threshold and whether an error rate is within an error rate range. When both the configuration supports iterative MIMO reception and the signal parameter(s) meet the corresponding target condition(s), the apparatus uses the iterative MIMO receiver. If not, the apparatus uses a serial receiver.

Disclosed are methods and apparatus for reducing UE's power consumption by controlling early decoding boundary. In one aspect, a UE is configured to receive a data or voice frame from a base station. The UE selects one or more quality metrics for determining decoding boundary of the received frame and computes the selected one or more quality metrics. The UE then determines a decoding boundary for the frame based on one or more computed quality metrics. The UE then decodes the received frames at the determined decoding boundary and determines whether the decoding of the frame was successful. If the early decoding of the frame was successful, the UE may terminate reception of the frame. If the early decoding of the frame was unsuccessful, the UE may adjust the decoding boundary and decodes the frame at the adjusted boundary.
