An apparatus includes a controller. The controller monitors a magnitude of voltage powering a first dynamic load disposed in a series circuit path of multiple dynamic loads. The controller compares the magnitude of the voltage to a reference voltage. Based on the comparing, the controller controls operation of multiple power converter phases in a power converter to maintain a magnitude of the voltage powering the first dynamic load.

Power supply system and control in a series dynamic load configuration

An apparatus such as a power supply includes a controller and multiple power converter phases. The controller controls operation of the multiple power converter phases to produce an output voltage that powers a load. The multiple power converter phases are coupled in parallel to convert an input voltage into an output voltage. The controller further controls a flow of current through a series circuit path connecting multiple windings of the multiple power converter phases to operate the power supply in different modes.

Trans-inductance multi-phase power converters and control

An apparatus includes a controller. The controller controls a main power supply to produce an output signal to power multiple dynamic loads such as disposed in series or other suitable configuration. The controller detects a transient power consumption condition associated with a first dynamic load of the multiple dynamic loads. The controller controls a first power supply to produce an output current supplied through a series connection of multiple dynamic loads powered at least in part by the output current. The controller further monitors current consumption by the multiple dynamic loads. Based on the monitored current consumption, the controller adjusts a magnitude of the output current from the power supply supplied through the series connection.

A current estimation circuit is configured to estimate current within a power switch, e.g., within a switching voltage converter, using a voltage measured across its load terminals and its on-state resistance. Ringing and other transient anomalies associated with a turn-on transition of the power switch are neglected by ignoring the measured voltage across the power switch for a blanking interval after the transition. During the remainder of the conduction interval of the power switch, the measured voltage is sampled to provide first and second samples. Also during this interval, a slope of the measured voltage is estimated and tracked. The estimated slope and the first and second samples are combined to produce an estimate of the current for the entire conduction interval of the power switch, including the blanked interval. The estimated slope is used to correct for inaccuracy introduced by not using measured voltage during the blanking interval.

Slope detection and correction for current sensing using on-state resistance of a power switch

An example system comprises first circuitry (such as a first integrated circuit device having a limited number of input/output pins) and second circuitry (such as a second integrated circuit device having a limited number of input output pins). The second circuitry is communicatively coupled to receive communications over a communication link from the first circuitry. In one embodiment, the first circuitry includes a monitor circuit. The monitor circuit monitors a voltage rail inputted to power the first circuitry. The monitor circuit initiates switching between transmitting a control signal (such as status information indicating whether the first circuitry is powered correctly) and a data signal over a communication link from the first circuitry to second circuitry depending upon the magnitude of the voltage rail. For example, when the first circuit is properly powered, the monitor circuit initiates transmission of the data signal over the communication link to the second circuitry.
