Methods and systems for use in connection with an asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) system being available to provide voice service and data service to the customer's premises. One service of the voice service or the data service is in use at the customer's premises, and the exemplary methods and systems detect a request for provision of the other service. In response to the detection, impact information may be provided on performance of the one service in light of concurrent use of the other service. A list of modes of operation of the other service is provided. The subscriber may consider the impact information and the list of modes and respond with a selected mode of operation of the other service. The selected mode is detected and the other service is operated pursuant to the selected mode to the customer's premises.

Method and system for selection of mode of operation of a service in light of use of another service in an ADSL system

A method and system for routing Calling Name queries in a locally competitive environment includes the creation of a Calling Name query having both the calling party number and the called party number. The query is routed to a service control point of the local exchange carrier, where the called party number is extracted to determine the Calling Name service provider for the called party. The service control point accesses a series of databases to route the Calling Name query to the proper service provider/destination. The databases include a database storing a table of subscribers and their choice for Calling Name service, a database storing porting status of telephone numbers, and a database storing information about distribution of other local number portability databases.

Recording transactions using a chronological list superimposed on an indexed list. A transaction log of transaction entries is maintained as a chronological list superimposed on an indexed list. Preferably, each transaction entry includes a transaction descriptor field, a time stamp field, a chronological list pointer field and an indexed list pointer field. A first chronological list pointer points to the oldest transaction entry in the transaction log and a last chronological list pointer points to the latest transaction entry in the transaction log. The chronological list pointer field of a transaction entry points to the next oldest transaction entry. The indexed list includes a number of indexed list entry pointers. Each indexed list entry pointer corresponds to an index and points to a transaction entry with the same index. The indexed list pointer field of a transaction entry points to another transaction entry with the same index. Adding a transaction entry to the transaction log or deleting a transaction entry from the transaction log includes updating the chronological list pointers and the indexed list pointers.

In one aspect of the invention, the transaction log is implemented in an element of a telecommunications network. In another aspect of the invention, the transaction log is implemented in a computer system. Preferably, each transaction entry includes a transaction identifier field, a time stamp field, a chronological list pointer field and an indexed list pointer field. A first chronological list pointer points to the oldest transaction entry in the transaction log and a last chronological list pointer points to the latest transaction entry in the transaction log. A method and system for controlling access to information stored in an information database includes an unbundled port service control point coupled to an unbundled port information database. A signal transfer point routes line information database, calling name information, and other queries from an originating network to the unbundled port service control point. The unbundled port information database stores an unbundled port identifier that includes a dialing number for an unbundled port and a service provider identifier. The unbundled port information database also stores an information service identifier that includes a location for the database storing the service provider's information and access rights to that information for various networks. The unbundled port service control point extracts the originating network identity from the query and determines access rights to the requested information based upon the access rights for the information as stored in the database. If the network has access rights to the information, the unbundled port service control point routes the query to the database location specified in the information service identifier.

Method and system for providing access and control for telephone

A system and method for providing directory assistance service and information in a multiple service provider and a local number portability environment. An operator services system (OPSS) (15) is functionally connected to a first and a second database (24, 26). Preferably, the first database (24) is a directory assistance database, and the second database (26) is a directory assistance-local number portability (DA-LNP) database. Upon receipt of a request for a directory number associated with the name of a party, the OPSS (15) makes a first query of the first database (24) for first search results relating to the name of the party. Preferably, the OPSS (15) also concurrently makes a second query, but of the second database (26) for second search results relating to the name of the party. The first and second databases are searched based on the name of the party. The first and second search results are provided to the OPSS (15). In response to receipt of the first and second search results, the OPSS (15) consolidates both search results into consolidated search results. Preferably, the OPSS (15) eliminates any duplicative entry between the first and second search results. The OPSS (15) then provides the consolidated search results to a display (21). The consolidated search results are displayed and are used to provide the directory assistance service in response to the request for the name of the party.

System and method for providing directory assistance information

A method and system for delivering information obtained from an information delivery service database with a location routing number obtained from a local number portability database. A communication is received from an originating user number and directed to an end user number, and a determination may be made as to whether the end user number is a portable number. If the end user number is portable, then the end user number is compared to a plurality of ported numbers in the local number portability database for a match to one of the plurality of ported numbers. If the end user number matches one of the plurality of ported numbers in the local number portability database, then a location routing number is obtained corresponding to one of the ported numbers. In addition, information corresponding to the originating user number is obtained from the information delivery service database. Next, a signaling message is populated with the information. Finally, the signaling message with respect to the routing of the communication based on the location routing number is transmitted. The signaling message includes the information obtained from the information delivery service database. The information may comprise an originating user number, a name, or a combination of the originating user number and the name. Therefore, the task of obtaining the information corresponding to the originating user number from the information delivery service database may further comprise obtaining the originating user number and name.

A system and method for routing communications to a terminating station associated with a porting subscriber directory number when the porting subscriber line 14a is cut-over from a donor switch 12a to a donee switch 12b. Upon cut-over of the porting subscriber line 14a, a local number portability (LNP) activation telephone call is placed to a dial-in platform 50 that activates a previously provisioned but inactive LNP database entry for the porting subscriber directory number. The LNP database entry is located in an LNP database 42a at a service control point (SCP) 28a. The dial-in platform 50 also activates a previously provisioned but inactive directory-number-level trigger for the porting subscriber directory number at the donor switch 12a. Activating the directory-number-level trigger for the porting subscriber directory number at the donor switch 12a causes the donor switch 12a to hold a subsequently received telephone call directed to the porting subscriber directory number. The donor switch 12a then transmits a query message to the SCP 28a and holds the telephone call until it receives a response message including routing instructions from the SCP 28a. Activating the LNP database entry for the porting subscriber directory number in the LNP database 42a at the SCP 28a associates the porting subscriber directory number with the donee switch 12b. Activating the LNP database entry therefore allows the SCP 28 to determine the correct terminating switch for the held telephone call, which after cut-over, is the donee switch 12b.
