A surgical fixation device for mounting a stereotactic reference frame to a patient. The device includes a mounting bracket assembly, a cannulated post, a base, an anchor tube, a plurality of percutaneous pins, and a driving device. The mounting bracket assembly is connected to a top portion of the post, whereas the base is slidably coupled to a bottom portion of the post, and defines a plurality of legs. The anchor tube extends distally from the post. The percutaneous pins extend distally from the legs, respectively. Finally, the driving device is connected to the post and is adapted to selectively contact the base. Upon final assembly, the base is longitudinally moveable relative to the anchor tube. The base can be moved to a retracted position such that the anchor tube is readily securable to a bony structure of the patient's anatomy. Once secured, the base can be moved distally such that the percutaneous pins engage the bony structure as well, thereby promoting overall stability of the device.

Surgical reference frame fixation device with cannulated post and method of use

A surgical fastener system is disclosed. The system includes a surgical fastener, a surgical fastener holder sized and shaped to receive the surgical fastener at least partially therein, and a surgical fastener driver having a seat sized and shaped to frictionally receive a head of the surgical fastener therein. The fastener driver is constructed and arranged to selectively urge the fastener, and more particularly the fastener head, out of the seat. The surgical fastener driver thus includes an elongate body with the seat defined at an end thereof, and a drive piston disposed within the body. The drive piston has a first retracted position, and a second extended position in which at least a portion of the piston extends into the seat to urge the fastener out of the seat during usage. Also disclosed is a surgical fastener and a surgical fastener holder, respectively, for use with the system.

Surgical fastener system

A surgical headframe for maintaining a stereotactic system reference frame relative to a patient's head. The headframe includes a frame body, first and second arms, a plurality of contact pads, and a strap. The first and second arms extend from opposing sides of the frame body, respectively. The plurality of contact pads are coupled to the frame body and are each adapted to engage a patient's head. The strap is selectively connectible to the first and second arms. In this regard, the strap is adapted for wrapping about a back of a patient's head. The surgical headframe is capable of precisely positioning and fixating the reference frame to the patient's head daring these stereotactic procedures.

A surgical fastener driver has a handle and a tube extending therefrom. The handle defines a cavity therein. The tube is in communication with the cavity and is affixed to the handle. The tube extends outwardly from the cavity to a seat. The cavity is shaped so as to receive a surgical fastener therein. A piston, having a outward end, is disposed within the tube and extends from the cavity to the seat. The piston has a retracted position, in which the outward end does not extend into the seat, and an extended position, in which the outward end extends into the seat. A trigger is integrated with the handle and has a first state in which the piston is held in the retracted position and a second state in which the piston is released so as to allow the piston to move to the extended position. A driver, that is disposed within the cavity, exerts outward force on the piston so as to drive the piston into the extended position when the trigger is in the second state.
