A circuit interrupter is structured to electrically connect between a power source and a load. The circuit interrupter includes: separable contacts; an actuator coupled to the separable contacts and structured to open or close the separable contacts; a current sensor structured to sense current flowing through the circuit interrupter to the load; a communication module communicatively coupled to at least one of a cloud server and a user device and structured to transmit and receive data; and a controller coupled to the sensor, the actuator, and the communication module, the controller comprising at least one of a fault detector and a look-up table, the fault detector structured to detect and classify a fault, the look-up table comprising at least reference data associated with previous normal cycles, the reference data including at least power factors, closing angle ranges and fault classification categories.

Apparatus and method of detecting and classifying faults in circuit interrupter in microseconds

Voltage samples are collected for a source and loads connected thereto by an electrical network. Respective negative sequence voltage difference values are generated for respective source/load pairs from the voltage sample. A connection (e.g., a loose connection) in the electrical network is identified based on the generated negative sequence voltage difference values. The identified connection is reported to a user. Identifying a connection in the electrical network may include identifying at least one source/load pair having an associated negative sequence voltage difference value that meets a predetermined criterion and identifying the connection based on the identified at least one source/load pair. Identifying the connection may include identifying at least one source/load pair having an associated negative sequence voltage difference value with a magnitude falling outside of at least one range associated with the at least one source/load pair.

Apparatus, methods and computer-readable media for detection of loose connections in an electrical assembly

A method of monitoring joint and contact conditions in an automatic transfer switch includes: collecting electrical signals at a plurality of measurement locations associated with a plurality of power sources and a load over a predetermined period, the electrical signals including voltages and load current; obtaining deltas between source voltages and corresponding load voltage measured at the measurement locations over the predetermined period; comparing the deltas with thresholds obtained during healthy condition; determining that the deltas fall outside of the thresholds; and in response to determining that the deltas fall outside of the threshold, transmitting an alert to a user, the alert indicating a detection of one or more failure modes at the measurement locations.
