Systems and methods for restoring or recovering linear polarization state of an optical signal as it exits the far end of an optical fiber are disclosed. The optical signal may have an expected pattern of polarization states through a birefringent material of the optical fiber from a first node to a second node. The optical signal may be received by the second node and resulting polarization states may be measured. In certain non-limiting examples, the measured polarization states may be compared to expected polarization states to determine a characterization angle indicative of an axis of the optical fiber.

Optical cryptography systems and methods

Systems and methods for sharing data between a first node and second node are disclosed. The methods may include sharing a first initialization vector between a first node and a second node using a multi-stage cryptography protocol. A first bit stream of first information may be passed from the first node to the second node using a single-stage cryptography protocol that encodes a message with the first initialization vector.

Systems and methods for encoding a message are disclosed. A message may be passed from a first node to a second node via a communication link using a multi-stage cryptography algorithm distributed between the first node and the second node and applied by circuitry within the first node and the second node in which the multi-stage cryptography algorithm includes instructions for transmitting at least two optical signal transmissions across the communication path and using a number of independent transformations of polarization state of the optical signal transmission by a combination of the first node and the second node at least equal to the number of optical signal transmissions across the communication link.

A method for enhancing the carrying capacity of a network, comprising the steps of detecting the level of traffic incident on the network, and reserving, dynamically, wavelengths for a class of traffic according to the level of traffic incident on the network. The network can be a dense wavelength division multiplexing optical network.

Maximization of throughput under a fairness constraint in DWDM-based optical networks

A light surface display for providing a three-dimensional image including a plurality of particles dispersed within a volumetric display. A first projection system projects sequential slices of electromagnetic energy of one or more infrared wavelengths along the length and width of the volumetric display energizing particles to form a two-dimensional image. A second projection system projects translational slices of electromagnetic energy of one or more infra-red wavelengths that intersect with the energized particles across the depth of the volumetric display. A control system synchronizes the projection of the image source and the activation source such that the two-dimensional image and the translational slices energize the particles for a pre-determined length of time so that the particles illuminate to form an illuminated three-dimensional image.

A method of monitoring the cervical dilation of a pregnant female, comprising the steps of receiving cervical dilation data generated by a cervical dilation monitor having a sensor including a coil measuring an inductance with the coil attached to a housing such that expansion of the housing changes the inductance of the coil. Then, the cervical dilation is correlated to the immediacy of delivery to create immediacy data and/or one or more instructions indicative of the immediacy of delivery. The immediacy data and/or one or more instructions is transmitted so as to inform the pregnant female of the immediacy of delivery.

A cervical dilation monitor for measuring the dilation of a cervix and for providing cervical data to an external wireless unit. The cervical dilation monitor comprises a housing, a sensor, a controller, and a power source. The housing is constructed of a biocompatible material and is adapted to be connected to portions of a cervical lip. The sensor is supported by the housing so as to generate signals related to cervical dilation. The controller includes a transceiver and a processor. The transceiver receives and transmits the cervical dilation data to the external wireless unit. The processor receives the signals generated by the sensor related to the cervical dilation and enables the transceiver to wirelessly transmit the cervical dilation data. The power source provides power to the controller.

The present invention relates to methods and systems for enhancing the traffic carrying capacity of telecommunication networks, in particular those involving optical networks and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM).

Enhancing the traffic carrying capacity of telecommunication networks

A volumetric liquid crystal display for producing a three-dimensional image is disclosed. The volumetric liquid crystal display includes a volumetric image space having at least two layers of LCD sheeting wherein each layer of LCD sheeting is selectively energized to form image slices. At least one projection system projects at least one array of electromagnetic energy of one or more wavelengths to intersect the energized layer of LCD sheeting illuminating image slices. Successive illumination of image slices on the layers of LCD sheeting provides the appearance of a three-dimensional image. Embodiments and methods of controlling and fabricating a three-dimensional image are disclosed.
