The present disclosure provides a method for modification of surface of an initial optical fiber preform. The initial optical fiber preform is manufactured using at least one preform manufacturing process. The surface of the initial optical fiber preform is treated with 50-70 liters of chlorine per square meter of the surface of the initial optical fiber preform. The surface of the initial optical fiber preform is flame polished using a flame polishing module. The treatment of the surface of the initial optical fiber preform with chlorine and flame polishing of the surface of the initial optical fiber preform collectively converts the initial optical fiber preform into a modified optical fiber preform.

Method for modification of surface of optical fiber preform

Embodiments describe an optical fiber that includes a core. The core has high compressive stress. The compressive stress of the core is in a range of about 20 to 60 MPa. The optical fiber further includes a cladding. The cladding is divided into a first cladding layer and a second cladding layer. The second cladding layer has a high residual stress. The high residual stress of the second cladding layer is in a range of about 20 to 60 MPa. The optical fiber enables reduction of particle related breaks. Further, the optical fiber has elevated LLT strength. The LLT strength is about 6 Kg. The optical fiber has high proof test yield. Furthermore, the optical fiber is highly sensitive to micro-bending of the optical fiber.

Stress-managed specialty fiber for sensory application

The present disclosure provides a method and system of identifying macro-bends in at least one test fiber. The method includes generation of modulated optical pulses and scrambling the state of polarization of the modulated optical pulses to random states of polarization. The method includes injection of the modulated optical pulses in at least one test fiber and reception of backscattered optical pulses and splitting of the backscattered optical pulses to a first optical component and a second component. The method includes measurement of a first power of the first optical component and a second power of the second optical component of the backscattered optical pulses. The method includes calculation of discrete values of polarization dependent loss as a function of distance and identification of the macro-bends by analysis of peaks in one or more plots of one or more traces of the discrete values of the polarization dependent loss.

An all-fiber isolator as an optical isolator comprises: an optical fiber acting as an optical light guide for propagating incident light; and a Faraday rotator for rotating by 45&#xb0; a plane of polarization polarized by the polarizer. The all-fiber isolator exhibits a magneto-optic effect enough to be used as an optical isolator at a visible light wavelength by including quantum dots in a core layer and/or an internal cladding layer of the optical fiber.
