Devices and system are provided that can not only stop a pet from pulling its owner, but to train a pet over time to not pull while being walked on a leash. In an exemplary implementation, a removable strap can be wrapped around the highest point of either front leg of a pet, and running a leash through the guide on the outside of the strap, so that an existing leash can be run from the collar, under the inside of the leg and up to the owner's hand.

A method and apparatus for identifying devices using a bitmap are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises: accessing a memory to obtain one or more bitmaps that map each bit location in the bitmap to an index value, where one index value is assigned to each remote wireless media device of a wireless network in a wireless communication system; and examining those bitmaps and determining at least one characteristic of a remote wireless media device and a device identifier that identifies the remote wireless media device in the wireless network based on the bit position in those bitmaps.

An apparatus, system and method for performing dispatch operations using a signal physical interface are disclosed. In one embodiment, the apparatus is for use in a wireless communication system for communicating with a wireless network and comprises a host processor, a transceiver, a physical interface coupling the host processor and the transceiver, and a memory accessible by the host processor and the transceiver to exchange information between the host processor and the transceiver. The transceiver is operable to store data in the memory for the host processor to send data to the host processor using the memory and asserts a control signal to the host processor to notify the host processor that the memory contains data for the host processor, and the host processor is operable to access the memory to obtain the data thereafter. The data is associated with a remote device in the wireless network and is stored as one or more packets at a first storage location in the memory with a first identifier identifying the remote device.

Dispatch capability using a single physical interface

In general, techniques are described that facilitate scalable wholesale layer two (L2) connectivity between customers and service providers and a demarcation between the L2 wholesale network and one or more ISPs with which customers communicate L2 PDUs. In one example, a network device receives PDU having both a service identifier identifying a service virtual local area network (SVLAN) and a customer identifier identifying a customer VLAN (CVLAN). A virtual switch determines whether an entry of a L2 learning table is associated with both the service identifier and the customer identifier of the PDU. When no such entry exists, a VLAN learning module updates the L2 learning table to create a new entry that maps to a network device interface and is associated with both the service identifier of the PDU and a plurality of customer identifiers that includes the customer identifier of the PDU.

A method and apparatus for initializing a transceiver in a wireless communication system. In one embodiment, a method for initializing a transceiver that is part of an apparatus for use in a wireless communication system for communicating with WirelessHD devices in a wireless network, where the apparatus comprises a host processor; a transceiver; a physical interface coupling the host processor and the transceiver; and a memory accessible by the host processor and the transceiver to exchange information between the host processor and the transceiver, the initialization method comprising resetting the transceiver by initializing internal hardware and software subsystems of the transceiver; after resetting the transceiver, the transceiver entering a configuration state to configure the transceiver; configuring the transceiver, such that the transceiver is configured as part of initialization; and after configuration, the transceiver entering a wait enable state during which the transceiver waits for its wireless interface to be enabled before wireless operation of the transceiver becomes active.

Initializing a transceiver in a wireless communication system

A network device may include a timing module and at least one interface. The timing module determines a local time of the network device indicating when the network device sends a synchronization start message. The at least one interface sends the synchronization start message to a time client device to set the current time of day on the time client device, receives a synchronization response message from the time client device indicating that the current time of day of the time client device was set, and sends a synchronization success message to the time client device indicating that the time client device has correctly set its current time of day.

Enhanced pulse assisted time synchronization protocol

Techniques are described for selecting an alternate path for end-to-end service data traffic that traverses multi-homed routers that provide the service to customer networks. For example, as described herein, a router that is a member of a first multi-homing set connected to a layer two (L2) network with one of a plurality of first access links. The router advertises a status of one of the first access links to a second multi-homing set connected to the first multi-homing set with one or more core links. A core link database stores advertised status information for access links of the first and second multi-homing set. Upon a link failure, a path selector selects a core link to transport service data traffic and directs a switch module to switch to active a status a first access links that connects to a router in the first multi-homing set connected to the selected core link.

Network path selection for multi-homed edges to ensure end-to-end resiliency

Techniques are described that facilitate performing accounting and billing separately for each customer of a service provider account registered to an owner of a shared customer device. An access router performs separate data usage accounting for each of the customers in sub-accounts of the registered service provider account based on customer virtual local area network (CVLAN) and service VLAN (SVLAN) tags included in data packets. A network operator may, therefore, generate a bill for the shared customer device that includes separate data usage charges for each customer. To facilitate the techniques, the access router may determine a CVLAN and SVLAN associated with a customer. The CVLAN and SVLAN tags are included in a service request toward a service provider, and copied into a service request reply toward the shared customer device. The shared customer device then includes the tags in data packets to identify the customer to the access router.

Performing separate accounting and billing for each customer of a shared customer device

A network device may receive first qualification indicators, for a first signal, from all line cards of the network device. The network device may, in response to the first qualification indicators, transmit instructions to all of the line cards to use the first signal. The network device may further receive second qualification indicators, for a second signal, from all of the line cards. In response to the second qualification indicators, the network device may store information for the second signal in order to use the second signal as a backup signal.

Distributed synchronous ethernet using a centralized controller

In general, techniques are described for performing scalable layer two (L2) learning in computer networks. A network device that includes interfaces and a control unit may implement these techniques. The control unit stores a L2 learning table having entries that are each associated with a service tag identifying a service virtual local area network. In response to receiving a packet that includes a service tag, the interfaces access the L2 learning table using the service tag to determine whether any of the entries of the L2 learning table are associated with the service tag. When none of the entries are associated with the service tag, the L2 learning module updates the L2 learning table to create a new entry defining an association between the one of the interfaces that received the packet and the service tag.

Performing scalable L2 wholesale services in computer networks

A method and apparatus for performing device discovery in a wireless communication system is described. In one embodiment, a device discovery process is used in a wireless communication system having an apparatus for communicating with WirelessHD devices in a wireless network, where the apparatus comprises a host processor; a transceiver; a physical interface coupling the host processor and the transceiver; and a memory accessible by the host processor and the transceiver to exchange information between the host processor and the transceiver, and the device discovery process comprises: discovering a remote wireless device in the wireless network; notifying, by the transceiver, the host processor of the remote wireless device; requesting, under control of the transceiver, capability information from the remote wireless device prior to receiving a request from the host processor for the capability information; buffering, under control of the transceiver, the capability information before the capability information is requested by the host processor; receiving a capability request from the host processor; and providing the host processor access to the capability information.

Device discovery in a wireless communication system

A method and apparatus for performing connection control in a wireless communication system is described. In one embodiment, an apparatus is used in a wireless communication system for communicating with a wireless network, and the apparatus comprises a host processor, a transceiver, a physical interface coupling the host processor and the transceiver; and a memory accessible by the host processor and the transceiver to exchange information between the host processor and the transceiver. The memory has multiple banks that include: a first bank to store information being transferred from the host processor to the transceiver, and a second bank to store information being transferred from the transceiver to the host processor, the second bank being different than the first bank, to facilitate full-duplex communication of packet data between the host processor and the transceiver.

Connection control in a wireless communication system

A wireless content protection system includes a coordinator, a source device, and a sink device. The coordinator includes a scheduler. The source and sink devices each have a content protection manager. One of the content protection manager allocates and releases bandwidth via the coordinator for a test message and a response message for a round-trip time computation. The test message is transmitted in a source-to-sink channel time block. The response message is transmitted in a sink-to-source channel time block. The round-trip time is the period between the end of the source-to-sink channel time block and the beginning of the sink-to-source channel time block.
