A cellular communications network comprises a plurality of geographically distributed access nodes arranged for communication with mobile terminals. A location prediction engine predicts a location for a first mobile terminal at a predetermined time and a configuration output configures two or more of the plurality of access nodes for coordinated communication with the first mobile terminal at the predetermined time, based on the predicted location for the first mobile terminal.

A method of operating a mobile telecommunications device including cellular communication means operable to communicate with a cellular telecommunications network base station and white space communication means operable to communicate with a non-cellular white space access point, the method including determining the availability of white space and selectively enabling white space communication in dependence upon the determination. Controlling transmission of user data in the white space may be by exchanging control data with the cellular telecommunications network base station such that the control data controls the transmission of user data in the white space. White space communication need not be implemented in uplink and may be used in the downlink alone.

White space access in mobile communication networks

A method is provided for operating a mobile telecommunications device including a cellular communication device operable to communicate with a cellular telecommunications network base station and a white space communication device operable to communicate with a non-cellular white space access point. The method includes determining the availability of white space and selectively enabling white space communication in dependence upon the determination. Controlling transmission of user data in the white space may be by exchanging control data with the cellular telecommunications network base station such that the control data controls the transmission of user data in the white space. Data rate in mobile communication networks

An SAE/LTE or 4G cellular telecommunications network is disclosed which comprises a plurality of eNodeBs and a network core. A plurality of mobile telecommunications devices are registered with the network and communicate with the network core via the eNodeBs. A relay is provided between the eNodeBand the mobile telecommunications device to extend the radio coverage provided by the eNodeB. Channel quality measurement data are transmitted to at least one of the telecommunications devices in a link with the relay to enable the telecommunications devices to calculate the channel quality between the mobile device and the relay and/or the node.

Controlling interference in a telecommunications network, in which data are transmitted between mobile devices and base stations in resource blocks, includes, for each of the base stations: allocating resource blocks to one of multiple resource groups, the corresponding resource blocks of each base station being in the same resource group; allocating resource groups to one of multiple transmission power values, the corresponding resource groups of each base station having different transmission power values; and allocating respective ones of the mobile devices to one of the resource groups depending upon a UE characteristic. Interference at a resource block of a resource group of a base station caused by a neighboring base station is detected. In response thereto, an indication of the resource group subject to interference is sent to the neighboring base station and then the transmission power value of said resource group of the neighboring base station is selectively reduced.
