Techniques described herein relate to a method for managing upgrades of backup agents in a data cluster. The method may include identifying, by a data protection manager, a backup agent upgrade event associated with a backup agent type of backup agent types and a data cluster that includes production hosts that execute virtual machines (VMs); in response to identifying the backup agent upgrade event: obtaining production host information associated with the production hosts; obtaining protection policy information associated with the production hosts; generating an upgrade schedule specifying a portion of production hosts associated with backup agent upgrades of backup agents of the backup agent type using the production host information and the protection policy information; and initiating performance of backup agent upgrades on the portion of production hosts based on the upgrade schedule.

The method includes identifying a discovery event associated with a data cluster; sending a request for currently deployed data cluster components to a data cluster manager associated with the data cluster; obtaining data cluster component inventory information associated with the data cluster from the data cluster manager; making a first determination that the currently deployed data cluster components comprise changed data cluster components using the data cluster component inventory information; mapping protection policy types to newly deployed data cluster components of the data cluster using the data cluster component inventory information and component data protection information; updating a data cluster component inventory repository using the data cluster component inventory information; and initiating performance of data protection services for the newly deployed data cluster components based on the mapped protection policy types.

Techniques described herein relate to a method for managing data protection services for data clusters. The method includes identifying, by a data protection manager, a migration event associated with a first data cluster; in response to identifying the migration event: identifying a second data cluster capable of hosting the first data cluster using data cluster topology information and data cluster component inventory information associated with the first data cluster; generating a dependency map associated with the second data cluster based on the first data cluster; identifying a migration sequence based on the dependency map; initiating data cluster components of the second data cluster to perform migration of the first data cluster; and migrating the first data cluster to the second data cluster.
