A method includes receiving a quantized video having a first maximum luminance level or brightness associated with a mastering display with which the quantized video was mastered. The method also includes de-quantizing the quantized video in order to generate a de-quantized video. The method further includes applying a scene-adaptive tone mapping function to the de-quantized video in order to generate a tone mapped video. In addition, the method includes displaying the tone mapped video on a target display. The tone mapped video has a second maximum luminance level or brightness associated with the target display, and the second maximum luminance level or brightness is less than the first maximum luminance level or brightness.

HDR tone mapping methods with scene adaptive parameterized tone map function

An electronic device may include a display, an ambient light sensor, and control circuitry. The control circuitry may use a mesopic vision model to compensate images that are displayed in low light conditions when the measured ambient light brightness is below a threshold. The mesopic vision model may use a tone mapping process and a color mapping process to compensate for the reduced color sensitivity of the retina in low light conditions. The control circuitry may iteratively adjust weights associated with the tone mapping process and the color mapping process until a perceived (retinal) version of the compensated image in the measured ambient light conditions closely matches a perceived (retinal) version of the original image in reference ambient light conditions. The control circuitry may use a joint optimization process that balances the contrast and color of the compensated image.

One embodiment provides a method comprising determining a first representation of a source gamut of an input content in a first (2D) device-independent color space, determining a second representation of a target gamut of a display device in a second 2D device-independent color space, and determining a color transition protection zone (TPZ) based on the source gamut and the target gamut. The method further comprises utilizing a color gamut mapping (CGM) module to perform, based on the TPZ, linear color gamut compression from the first 2D device-independent color space to the second 2D device-independent color space if the target gamut is narrower than the source gamut. The method further comprises utilizing the same CGM module to perform, based on the TPZ, linear color gamut extension from the first 2D device-independent color space to the second 2D device-independent color space if the target gamut is wider than the source gamut.

Color gamut compression and extension

A method, apparatus, and non-transitory computer readable medium for video tone mapping. The method includes a target display receiving a quantized video generated by a master display, the quantized video being mastered for a first range of luminance values associated with the master display; receiving metadata from a tone mapping curve parameter extraction, the metadata comprising at least one maximum value of a luminance parameter of the quantized video as mastered for the first range of luminance values; and de-quantizing the quantized video to produce a de-quantized video. The method also includes at least one processor of the target display applying a tone mapping function defined by a normalized Bezier curve to the de-quantized video; and generating, based on applying the tone mapping function, a tone mapped video mastered for a second range of luminance values associated with the target display.

One embodiment provides a method comprising determining a first representation of a source gamut of an input content in a first two-dimensional (2D) device-independent color space, determining a second representation of a target gamut of a display device in a second 2D device-independent color space, and determining a color transition protection zone (TPZ) based on the source gamut and the target gamut. The method further comprises utilizing a color gamut mapping (CGM) module to perform, based on the TPZ, linear color gamut compression from the first 2D device-independent color space to the second 2D device-independent color space if the target gamut is narrower than the source gamut. A method includes determining, by a computing device, a working color space of a source content and a resulting content. The computing device models color saturation variations of different hues in the working color space with one or more properties of responses of a human vision system (HVS) to color stimulus. The computing device generates one or more color saturation variation models based on the responses of the HVS to color stimulus. An input color is mapped from the source content to an output color in the working color space using the one or more color saturation variation models.

One embodiment provides a method comprising determining a target color gamut of a display device, an inner zone of the target color gamut, and an outer zone of the target color gamut. The method further comprises dynamically determining, based on the inner zone and the outer zone, a path along which an input color in a source color gamut of an input content moves. The input color is outside the inner zone. The method further comprises mapping the input color from the source color gamut to an output color in the outer zone based on the path. The input color is rendered as the output color during presentation of the input content on the display device.

A method, apparatus, and non-transitory computer readable medium for video tone mapping. The method includes receiving the video and determining parameters of a tone mapping function defined by a Bezier curve for processing the video. The method also includes generating, by at least one processor, a tone mapped video by applying the tone mapping function to the video using the determined parameters.

A method comprising receiving an input video signal comprising high dynamic range (HDR) video for presentation on a display device, and receiving metadata for the input video signal. The metadata comprises a first Bezier curve for tone mapping of the HDR video that fits a first peak luminance level. The method further comprises adjusting the first Bezier curve to a second Bezier curve for tone mapping of the HDR video that fits a second peak luminance level. The display device has the second peak luminance level, and the second peak luminance level is different from the first peak luminance level. Guided tone mapping of high dynamic range video based on a Bezier curve for presentation on a display device

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for identifying an unknown subject using face recognition. In particular, upon receiving a plurality of images depicting a subject, the method may include deriving and storing a common component image and a gross innovation component image associated with the subject, wherein the subject can later be identified in a new image using these two stored images. The common component image may capture features that are common to all of the received images depicting the subject, whereas the gross innovation component image may capture a combination of the features that are unique to each of the received images. The method may further include deriving and storing a low-rank data matrix associated with the received images, wherein the low-rank data matrix may capture any illumination differences and/or occlusions associated with the received images.
