Membranes, methods of making the membranes, and methods of using the membranes are described herein. The membranes can comprise a gas permeable support layer, an inorganic layer disposed on the support, the inorganic layer comprising a plurality of discreet nanoparticles having an average particle size of less than 1 micron, and a selective polymer layer disposed on the inorganic layer, the selective polymer layer comprising a selective polymer having a CO:Nselectivity of at least 10 at 57&#xb0; C. In some embodiments, the membrane can be selectively permeable to an acidic gas. The membranes can be used, for example, to separate gaseous mixtures, such as flue gas.

Composite membranes for separation of gases

Membranes, methods of making the membranes, and methods of using the membranes are described herein. The membranes can comprise a gas permeable support and a continuous phase comprising a selective inorganic material disposed within the gas permeable support. In some embodiments, the membranes can exhibit a CO:Nselectivity of at least 10 at 24&#xb0; C. The membranes can be bendable, such that when the membranes are wrapped around a 1.5-inch diameter cylinder and returned to a planar conformation, the CO:Nselectivity of the membranes is at least 25% of the CO:Nselectivity of the membranes prior to having been wrapped around the cylinder.

Membranes for fluid separation

Various embodiments of a gas sensor device and method of fabricating a gas sensor device are provided. In one embodiment a gas sensor device includes a base substrate, an electrolyte layer disposed on the base substrate and a plurality of potentiometric sensor units electrically coupled to the base substrate. Each potentiometric sensor unit includes an electrolyte layer disposed on the base substrate, a sensing electrode comprising tungsten oxide (WO) and platinum (Pt), a reference electrode comprising Pt, and a plurality of connectors coupled to the plurality of potentiometric sensors to connect the plurality of potentiometric sensors in series.

Miniaturized gas sensor device and method

A method of making a microporous crystal material, comprising: a. forming a mixture comprising NaOH, water, and one or more of an aluminum source, a silicon source, and a phosphate source, whereupon the mixture forms a gel; b. heating the gel for a first time period, whereupon a first volume of water is removed from the gel and micoroporous crystal nuclei form, the nuclei having a framework; and c.(if a membrane is to be formed) applying the gel to a solid support seeded with microporous crystals having a framework that is the same as the framework of the nuclei; d. heating the gel for a second time period. during which a second volume of water is added to the gel; wherein the rate of addition of the second volume of water is between about 0.5 and about 2.0 fold the rate of removal of the first volume of water.

Methods for synthesizing microporous crystals and microporous crystal membranes

Some aspects of the present disclosure relate to a sensor design that exploits the different majority carriers (holes/electrons) in WOand CrOto build sensitivity and selectivity to NO at ppb levels, while discriminating against CO at concentrations a thousand-fold higher (ppm) and spread over a considerable range (0-20 ppm). Practical application of this sensor system for detecting NO in human breath is demonstrated.

Systems and methods for discriminating among volatile compounds is provided using a semiconductor junction structure or sensor device. Sensor devices of the present disclosure employ a combination of hole carriers (p-type) and electron carriers (n-type) metal oxides deposited, for example, on a gold microspring array designed so that it has several leads that are at different distances from each other.

Obtaining selectivity in gas sensors via a sensor array system composed of P and N type material

An NO sensing system includes an inlet for receiving an original sample, a humidifier, fluidly communicating with the inlet, and a first sensor. The original sample is fluidly transmitted through the humidifier and exits the humidifier as a humidified sample having a humidity above a predetermined level. The first sensor generates a potential difference in response to presence of NO in the humidified sample. The potential difference is indicative of a level of NO within the original sample.

System and method for sensing NO

A method and an article of an electrically conductive ceramic interconnect bonded to a compatible ceramic housing for an oxygen partial pressure sensor system. The interconnect includes a LaSrAlMnO(LSAM) having a stoichiometry enabling good electrical conductivity at high temperatures and the LSAM also bonded to a yttria stabilized zirconia forming a stable and durable seal.

Electronically conducting ceramic electron conductor material and the process for producing an air-tight seal in an oxygen sensor with an internal reference

Described are CO sensors, methods for making the CO sensors, and methods for using the CO sensors. An exemplary CO sensor includes a ruthenium oxide present in a form having one or more surfaces, a pair of conductive electrodes operatively connected to a surface of the ruthenium oxide, and an electrical device operatively connected to the pair of conductive electrodes. The gas mixture contacts at least one surface of the ruthenium oxide during operation of the sensor and the electrical device applies a constant potential (or current) and measures a current (or potential) between the pair of conductive electrodes, from which a resistance can be derived as the gas mixture contacts at least one surface of the ruthenium oxide. The ruthenium oxide may have varying levels of hydration. Furthermore, the sensor operates at a temperature range of from about 25&#xb0; C. to about 300&#xb0; C., the sensor measures CO within a gas mixture when CO is present at concentrations of from about 1 ppm to about 1,000 ppm, and the sensor can measure CO in the presence of one or more interfering gases.

Room temperature CO sensor and method of making same

The present invention generally relates to carbon dioxide (CO) sensors. In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a carbon dioxide (CO) sensor that incorporates lithium phosphate (LiPO) as an electrolyte and sensing electrode comprising a combination of lithium carbonate (LiCO) and barium carbonate (BaCO). In another embodiment, the present invention relates to a carbon dioxide (CO) sensor has a reduced sensitivity to humidity due to a sensing electrode with a layered structure of lithium carbonate and barium carbonate. In still another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method of producing carbon dioxide (CO) sensors having lithium phosphate (LiPO) as an electrolyte and sensing electrode comprising a combination of lithium carbonate (LiCO) and barium carbonate (BaCO).

A compact oxygen sensor is provided, comprising a mixture of metal and metal oxide an enclosure containing said mixture, said enclosure capable of isolating said mixture from an environment external of said enclosure, and a first wire having a first end residing within the enclosure and having a second end exposed to the environment. Also provided is a method for the fabrication of an oxygen sensor, the method comprising confining a metal-metal oxide solid mixture to a container which consists of a single material permeable to oxygen ions, supplying an electrical conductor having a first end and a second end, whereby the first end resides inside the container as a reference (PO), and the second end resides outside the container in the atmosphere where oxygen partial pressure (PO)is to be measured, and sealing the container with additional single material such that grain boundary sliding occurs between grains of the single material and grains of the additional single material.

High-temperature potentiometric oxygen sensor with internal reference

A bifunctional total NOand Osensor assembly with an internal reference for high temperature sensing. Two electrochemical total NO(NO+NO) measuring systems and method were coupled with a metal/metal oxide internal oxygen reference to detect Oand NOsimultaneously in a combustion environment using a single sensor. A Pd/PdO-containing reference chamber was sealed within a stabilized zirconia superstructure by a high pressure/temperature bonding method. An amperometric and potentiometric NOsensor assembly was built on the outside of the Pd/PdO chamber. Pt-loaded zeolite Y was used to obtain total NOcapacity and also to cover the Pt electrodes for detecting oxygen in the presence of NO.
