An air bag assembly comprising: an inflator for providing a source of inflation gas, and an air bag having a first end and a second end and a first side and a second side, the air bag configured to have a first inflatable chamber proximate the first end, a second inflatable chamber proximate the second and a non-inflatable region therebetween; the air bag including an inlet communicated with the inflator, the air bag further including a plurality of joints or seams, which connect selective regions of the first and second sides together thereby controlling the inflatable volume of the air bag, a top portion of each of the plurality of joints or seams located a determinable distance from a top of the air bag to form within the air bag an integral gas flow path or channel, the inlet generally positioned spaced from a top of the air bag and generally located between the first inflatable chamber and second Inflatable chamber.

Curtain air bag assembly

A curtain air bag module () comprising an air bag () having at least one inflatable region with internally configured internal tethers, at least one of the internal tethers disposed at an angle to a stream of inflation gas. The air bag includes a distribution tube located proximate a top portion of the at least one inflatable region of the air bag, the tube having a first end adapted to receive inflation gas, the distribution tube including at least one set of openings proximate each of the at least one inflatable regions for communication of inflation gas to these regions, the at least one internal tether disposed at an oblique angle to the distribution tube.

Curtain air bag module

An air bag () having a main panel () having face panel portion () configured to face an occupant when the air bag is inflated, the main panel in the vicinity of the face panel portion including an opening (), the opening having an edge (). A cup-shaped structure () of material is fitted within the opening and sewn or secured to the edge () of the main panel opening (); the cup-shaped structure is located within the air bag below the exterior surface of the main panel. A tether anchored at one end and having a second end secured to a portion of the cup-shaped structure, the length of the tether configured to prevent the cup-shaped structure from moving beyond the exterior surface of the main panel, the cup-shaped structure and remaining parts of the air bag forming opposing lobes () upon inflation, wherein the cup-shaped structure forms a groove or depression () between the lobes.

Grooved air bag

An airbag () has an inflatable chamber () defined by a main front panel () and a pair of side panels (), (). The airbag () has a vertically oriented recessed portion () on the main panel () located on a lower portion of an airbag (), preferably vertically at or below a gas inlet passageway (). The recessed portion () divides the airbag () into two lower lobe portions () on each side of the recessed portion (). Upon inflation an internal tether () is attached to the recessed portion () and is anchored at or adjacent to the gas inlet passageway () thereby limiting forward movement of the recessed portion () upon inflation. The airbag () is useful as a frontal airbag, particularly a passenger frontal airbag.
