A system and method for monitoring a motor of a vehicle system monitor operating conditions of the vehicle system and determine whether the operating conditions of the vehicle system match designated operating conditions. Responsive to determining that the operating conditions of the vehicle system that are monitored match the designated operating conditions, an electrical signature representative of an electric current supplied to the motor of the vehicle system is examined and damage to one or more of the motor of the vehicle system or a mechanical coupling of the motor to one or more of a wheel or axle of the vehicle system is identified based on the electrical signature that is examined.

A method for controlling operation of an electric power generation system includes receiving power generator data corresponding to the electric power generation system. The method further includes receiving, using a digital prime mover unit, a set-point parameter corresponding to a prime mover unit and generating one or more prime mover parameter estimates corresponding to the plurality of prime mover parameters. Further, the method includes receiving, using a digital generator unit, one or more prime mover parameter estimates and generating one or more generator parameter estimates corresponding to the plurality of generator parameters. The digital prime mover unit and the digital generator unit are real-time operational models of the prime mover unit and the generator unit. The method also includes controlling the operation of the electric power generation system based on at least one or more of the power generator data, the prime mover parameter estimates, and the generator parameter estimates.

A method of controlling an operation of a mechanical transmission system includes receiving motor-load data corresponding to the mechanical transmission system. The method further includes receiving, by a digital motor unit, one or more motor input parameters and generating motor parameter estimates of one or more of the plurality of motor parameters. The method also includes receiving, by a digital load unit, one or more motor parameter estimates from the digital motor unit and generating load parameter estimates corresponding to one or more load parameters. This disclosure relates to systems and methods for performing an autonomous procedure for monitoring and diagnostics of a machine using electrical signature analysis. In one embodiment of the disclosure, a method includes providing electrical data of an electrical rotating machine associated with at least one fault frequency. While in a learning mode, the method includes converting the electrical data from a time domain to a frequency domain to obtain baseline data. While in an operational mode, the method includes converting the electrical data from the time domain to the frequency domain to obtain monitoring data. The method further includes determining, based at least on the monitoring data, a ratio value at the fault frequency, determining a rate of change of the ratio value at the fault frequency, and, optionally, issuing, based on the rate of change, an alarm concerning at least one event of the electrical rotating machine.

A method of controlling an electric motor assembly includes receiving sensor feedback that is based at least in part on electrical properties of a variable frequency power signal provided to the electric motor assembly. The method also includes adjusting the phase angle of the variable frequency power signal provided to the electric motor assembly based at least in part on the sensor feedback. The method also includes determining an operational status of the electric motor assembly that receives the variable frequency power signal based at least in part on the sensor feedback.

This disclosure relates to systems and methods for electrical signature analysis of electrical rotating machines. In one embodiment of the disclosure, a method includes ascertaining initial information associated with an electrical rotating machine, assigning a plurality of operational conditions associated with the machine to a plurality of buckets, and recording the electrical data to obtain a pre-defined number of sets of learning data. The method further includes determining, based at least on the initial information and the learning data, that the machine is in a healthy condition, obtaining, based on the learning data, baseline data associated with at the at least one bucket, and generating, based on the baseline data, a threshold associated with the bucket and at least one fault frequency associated with the machine. The method further includes generating, based on the threshold and the baseline data, alarms concerning a state of the electrical rotating machine.

Electrical signature analysis of electrical rotating machines

Systems and methods are disclosed for calibration and compensation of on-line current transformers. In certain embodiments, a method to calibrate a single current transformer by use of an AC injected current is provided. In other embodiments, a method to calibrate and compensate multiple current transformers using a single AC injected current is provided. In further embodiments, a system for calibration and compensation of multiple current transformers is provided. The adequate frequency of the injected current as well as other characteristics for adequate use in some embodiments is provided.

A fault detection system for a wind turbine includes a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). The DFIG includes a wye-ring configured for at least three electrical phases. The fault detection system includes a data acquisition system including at least three sensors. Each sensor of said at least three sensors is configured to electrically couple with and measure a respective voltage of each phase of the at least three electrical phases of the wye-ring. The fault detection system further includes an alert system coupled to said data acquisition system. The alert system is configured to apply a Fourier transform to the respective measured voltages of each phase of the at least three electrical phases of the wye-ring. The alert system is further configured to provide an indication of a condition of the wye-ring based upon the transformed measured voltages.

A method for estimating a speed of an induction motor includes applying a voltage to the induction motor and measuring a current of the induction motor. A current fast fourier transform (FFT) of the current is then determined and a slip of the induction motor is calculated based on the current FFT. A speed of the induction motor is then estimated based on the slip of the induction motor.
