A wind turbine cooling system comprising a cooling circuit arranged to convey a cooling fluid to and from a heat source, a cooling device arranged to cool the cooling fluid, apump arranged to circulate the cooling fluid in the cooling circuit, and a cooling fluid tank arranged in fluid connection with the cooling circuit and having a first fluid port adjacent a top of the tank and a second fluid port adjacent a bottom of the tank, wherein the second fluid port is arranged to communicate with the cooling circuit, wherein the pump has an outlet arranged in fluid connection with the cooling circuit and in fluidconnection with the tank, and wherein a fluid path between the pump outlet and the tank includes a flow restriction device.

Wind turbine cooling system

A wind turbine () includes a tower (), a nacelle () coupled to the tower () and housing one or more heat generating components (), a rotor () having a least one wind turbine blade (), and a cooler () mounted to the nacelle () and configured to cool the one or more heat generating components () in the nacelle () by circulating a working fluid. The cooler () includes a support frame () coupled to the nacelle () and a heat exchanger () coupled to the support frame () and configured to cool the working fluid. The heat exchanger () includes at least two cooling panels () in non-planar relation with each other. The at least two cooling panels () may also be pivotably coupled to each other. A method of assembling a cooler () is also disclosed.

Cooler for a wind turbine having pivotable cooling panels

A pipe coupling includes a pipe branch, a hose, and a retainer. The pipe branch forms a proximal branch section, a distal branch section, and an expanded section with an increased diameter therebetween. The hose includes an opening that receives the proximal branch section and includes a proximal fold, a distal fold, and a gasket therebetween. The gasket is arranged to seal between the hose and the proximal branch section. The retainer is configured to enclose the pipe branch and the hose and forms a proximal flange and a distal flange. The proximal flange and the distal flange both extend inwardly and define a passage for the pipe branch, the passage having a diameter which is smaller than the increased diameter. The proximal flange engages the proximal fold and the distal flange engages the distal branch section. The pipe coupling provides an easy and reliable connection between vibrating machine components.

Hose coupling

A wind turbine nacelle comprising a plurality of power generating components and a fluid system, wherein the nacelle includes a nacelle cover comprising a lower cover or 'base', a roof and side walls, thereby defining an interior space of the nacelle, wherein the fluid system includes a fluid tank that is integrated into the nacelle cover. The invention extends to a panel of a wind turbine nacelle cover, wherein the panel is configured to define at least apart of, or is coupled to, a fluid tank of a fluid system of the wind turbine.

A method of starting up a wind turbine includes heating first and second components, the first component having a first minimum operating temperature and the second component having a second minimum operating temperature. Excess heat is generated after the second component has been heated to the second minimum operating temperature. The excess heat is transferred to the first component to assist heating the first component to the first minimum operating temperature. The first and second components are cooled after reaching the first and second minimum operating temperatures.

Wind turbine having a heat transfer system

A lubrication system for a gear system of a wind turbine includes a first reservoir and a second reservoir adapted to contain lubricant. It further includes pump means arranged to supply lubricant from the first reservoir to the second reservoir during normal operation, and a distribution system fluidly connected between the first reservoir and the gear system in such a manner that lubricant can be supplied to the gear system from the first reservoir via the distribution system during normal operation. The lubrication system further comprises valve means being shiftable between a first position and a second position. In the first position a flow of lubricant from the second reservoir towards the gear system or the first reservoir is prevented, and in the second position it is allowed. The valve means operates in response to pressure changes in the lubrication system in such a manner that a predetermined pressure change automatically and directly causes the valve means to shift from the first position to the second position. Thereby it is ensured that the lubrication system is automatically, reliably and quickly switched to an emergency state in the case that a situation occurs which changes the pressure in the lubrication system in a predetermined manner. It is not necessary to rely on separate measurements of various parameters by independent probes or the like.

Lubrication system for a gear system for a wind turbine

A wind turbine having a cooling system, which wind turbine includes a nacelle in connection with which one or more wind turbine components are arranged, is disclosed. The cooling system includes at least one cooling circuit arranged to lead a heat transfer medium to and from one or more of the wind turbine components, at least one cooling device arranged to cool the heat transfer medium, at least one pump arranged in connection with the at least one cooling circuit to circulate the heat transfer medium in the cooling circuit, and at least one medium tank arranged in connection with the cooling circuit. The at least one medium tank is arranged inside the nacelle.

Cooling system for a wind turbine

The invention provides a wind turbine wind turbine with two vessels, each being interchangeably in thermal communication with a heating medium which transfers heat from a heat generating structure to the vessel, and with a cooling medium which transfers heat from the vessel to an ambient space. The vessels form a compression structure which form part of a refrigerating circuit which can circulate a working fluid between the compression structure, a condenser and an evaporator. At the evaporator, cooling effect is obtained based on evaporation of a working fluid, and the cooling can be utilized for cooling a heat generating component in the wind turbine.
