Aspects of the present disclosure involve a system and method for providing a boosted voltage using a single stage dual active bridge converter. In one embodiment, the single stage dual active bridge converter is introduced for high voltage charging using phase shift and frequency control. Phase shift and frequency control can be implemented on duty cycled switches and pulse width modulated switches in order to achieve a desired output voltage. In another embodiment, the phase shift and frequency controlled single stage dual active bridge converter is replicated in modular form to provide a single-phase system that provides a voltage for charging a high voltage system. In yet another embodiment, the phase shift and frequency controlled single stage dual active bridge converter is replicated in modular form to provide a three-phase system that provides a voltage for charging a high voltage system.

Method and system for single stage battery charging

A transformer-based switching power converter can include a slew rate limiter coupled to the switching stage and configured to limit rate of change of voltage across one or more switching devices of the switching stage, thereby reducing voltage spikes appearing on the secondary winding. The slew rate limiter may be configured to selectively operate to limit rate of change of voltage across one or more switching devices of the switching stage during startup of the switching stage, upon waking from burst mode, or at any time when zero voltage switching of the one or more switching devices is unavailable. The slew rate limiter can include at least one circuit element configured to selectively alter a time constant of a gate drive circuit of at least one switching device in the switching stage to increase a turn-on transition time of the at least one switching device.

Voltage slew rate limiters for transformer-based switching power converters

A controller may be configured to: (i) predict based on an electronic transformer secondary signal an estimated occurrence of a high-resistance state of a trailing-edge dimmer coupled to a primary winding of an electronic transformer, wherein the high-resistance state occurs when the trailing-edge dimmer begins phase-cutting an alternating current voltage signal; (ii) operate a power converter in a trailing-edge exposure mode for a first period of time immediately prior to the estimated occurrence of the high-resistance state, such that the power converter is enabled to transfer energy from the secondary winding to the load during the trailing-edge exposure mode; and (iii) operate the power converter in a power mode for a second period of time prior to and non-contiguous with the first period of time, such that the power converter is enabled to transfer energy from the secondary winding to the load during the power mode.

Systems and methods for low-power lamp compatibility with a trailing-edge dimmer and an electronic transformer

A controller may be configured to generate a control signal to activate and deactivate a switch of a switching power converter in order to control a switching period and a peak current of the switching power converter to maintain a regulated current of the switching power converter at a desired current level such that: if the switching period decreases below a minimum switching period, the controller increases the switching period by a ringing period of a voltage of the switch and increases the peak current to compensate for the increase of the switching period in order to maintain the regulated current, and if the peak current increases above a maximum peak current, the controller decreases the switching period by a ringing period of the voltage of the switch and decreases the peak current to compensate for the decrease of the switching period in order to maintain the regulated current.
