A computer-implemented method is provided for a management entity to detect where a rogue access point is connected to the network infrastructure. The management entity receives from a wireless network controller an indication of an unauthorized frame wirelessly intercepted by an authorized access point. The unauthorized frame carries data between a rogue access point and a wireless client device. The rogue access point is connected to a compromised network element in a managed network at a compromised port of the compromised network element. The management entity extracts a client network address and a gateway network address from the indication of the unauthorized frame. The management entity traces a path through the managed network from a gateway network element associated with the gateway network address to the compromised network element. The management entity determines the compromised port in the compromised network element at which the rogue access point is connected.

Accurate detection of rogue wireless access points

A method for managing packet voice networks using a virtual switch approach and abstract information model approach is disclosed. A virtual switch object represents a virtual switch having a media gateway controller and one or more associated media gateways. User input specifies a configuration operation on the virtual switch and one or more parameter values. One or more configuration instructions are automatically issued to both the media gateway controller and the media gateway, resulting in configuring both the media gateway controller and the media gateway as specified in the user input. As a result, a user can configure or operate on a virtual switch as an atomic entity, for example, in a network management application, without involvement in complicated details of the actual network devices that provide a particular packet voice service.

Managing packet voice networks using a virtual switch approach

A method for managing packet voice networks conforming to ITU Recommendation H.323, using a virtual entity approach and abstract information model approach, is disclosed. A virtual zone object represents an association of a virtual gateway, which comprises an H.323 gateway and a signaling controller, and one or more associated virtual gatekeepers, each of which comprises an H.323 gatekeeper, or the combination of an H.323 gatekeeper and a route server. User input specifies a configuration operation on the virtual zone and one or more parameter values. One or more configuration instructions are automatically issued to both the gateway and the gatekeeper, and other involved objects representing other involved network elements, resulting in configuring both the gateway and the gatekeeper as specified in the user input. As a result, a user can configure or operate on a virtual zone or other virtual object as an atomic entity, for example, in a network management application, without involvement in complicated details of the actual network devices that provide a particular packet voice service.
