A method in a radio access node performs a sleepy cell test which can determine a cell state for a cell served by a radio access node. Fulfilment of a predetermined triggering condition is detected in a radio access node. Following detection of the fulfilled triggering condition, one or more user equipment to be paged is determined. The radio access node initiates a page response timer period and performs paging of the user equipment until there is time out of the timer period or a page response is received from the one or more user equipment. The paging responses received while performing the step of paging the user equipment is assessed. A cell state alert message reflecting the result from the paging is generated and sent to a receiving entity. Related radio access nodes configured to carry out the sleepy cell test and methods are disclosed.

Methods and radio access node for determining a cell state

The present invention relates to a method in the radio access node for paging user equipment attached to a radio network. The steps performed by the radio access node include receiving () a core network paging message from a core network. A request for paging of the user equipment in a set of neighboring radio access nodes using paging level information in the core network paging message is identified (), wherein the paging level information may include information that an escalated page is to be performed. A radio access node paging instruction is generated () in the radio access node receiving the paging message; the paging instruction including an escalated page instruction. The paging instruction is sent () to the set of neighboring radio access nodes, whereupon a page is initiated in at least one cell of each neighboring radio access node. The invention also relates to a radio access node configured to perform the inventive method.

The invention relates to a method in a first radio base station for determining a performance state of a first cell served by the first radio base station, which first radio base station is comprised in a radio communications network. The method comprises determining traffic statistics of the first cell, comparing the traffic statistics with a threshold value, when the determined traffic statistics goes beyond the threshold value, transmitting a data request to a second radio base station requesting data retrieved in or associated with a second cell to be used to determine performance state of the first cell, receiving a data response indicating the requested data from the second radio base station, and determining the performance state of the first cell based on the data response.
