A fluidic coupling device includes a housing, and a piston, spring, and cap insertable in the housing. The spring includes a stack of spring washers and is compressible between the cap and the the piston. The cap is threadedly engageable with the housing and movable into contact with the spring. The device may be coupled to a component in a sealed manner by inserting a ferrule between the piston and the component, inserting a conduit through the housing and into the component, and threadedly engaging the housing with the component, thereby compressing the spring and translating the piston against the ferrule. The device may enable coupling to be done manually, with minimal variation in compressive loading. The piston and spring may desensitize the device to thermal cycling effects, reducing the need for retightening.

Fluidic coupling devices, assemblies, and related methods

A single-piece ferrule for a fitting for coupling a capillary to another component of a fluidic device, wherein the ferrule comprises a ferrule body, wherein the ferrule body has a lumen configured for receiving at least a part of the capillary, wherein the ferrule body has a tapering front part configured for forming a sealed connection with a housing of the fitting, wherein a back side of the tapering front part has an annular undercut.

An inlet liner is provided for use in an inlet assembly of a chromatograph system. The inlet liner has an elongate tube that extends along a longitudinal axis and defines a bore that extends along the longitudinal axis and has an inner bore surface. At least one projection extends from the inner bore surface into the bore. Chromatograph systems are provided including the exemplary inlet liner(s). Methods are also provided for analyzing a sample containing a matrix in a chromatograph system having an inlet assembly connected to a chromatograph column. The method includes positioning an exemplary inlet liner in the inlet assembly, flowing the sample through the inlet liner, and adhering a portion of the matrix to a projection surface of at least one projection of the inlet liner.

A plunger for a syringe used to inject gas and liquid chromatography samples has an end portion surrounded by a flexible sleeve. The sleeve forms a seal in the bore of a barrel traversed by the plunger, the bore being in fluid communication with a cannula attached to the end of the barrel. The plunger has an end surface that is exposed and is flush with an annular end surface of the sleeve. The plunger end surface, and not the sleeve, contacts the cannula upon injection and avoids imposing cyclical hoop stresses on the barrel which tend to crack the barrel after a finite number of cycles. In a further embodiment, a thin layer of sleeve material covers the end surface of the plunger. The thin layer avoids inducing significant barrel stress.
