A method of data processing is described for generating a screened bitmap in an adaptive manner. The page being printed is subdivided into a plurality of smaller areas, and the optimal screening method is selected based on the content of the data being processed. Areas of the page that primarily comprise of graphic elements and/or fonts are screened as part of the rendering process, while areas that are primarily continuous tone elements are screened as a secondary step after the rendering process.

Adaptive screening in raster image processing of complex pages

A print method converts page description data specifying a print document into pixel data. The print system includes a central processing unit, a first memory and a second memory that is smaller but faster than the first memory. The method extracts a display list from the page description data (), allocates space within the first memory to serve as a page buffer and divides the page buffer within the first memory into a plurality of sub-bands. Each sub-band is smaller than the second memory. For each sub-band the method renders pixels of a current sub-band into the second memory (). When the sub-band is completely rendered, the method transfers pixel data from the second memory to the current sub-band of the page buffer (). When all sub-bands are rendered, the page is printed by transfer of data from the page buffer to a print engine (). The central processing unit and the second memory are preferably disposed on the same integrated circuit.

Sub-banding of display list and video buffer for page rendering in a digital signal processor

A method of efficiently transferring data during image transformations performed by a multiprocessor (10). A bounding box (35) is defined for source data to be transferred to the multiprocessor (10) for processing. The dimensions of the bounding box (35) are derived from the dimensions of an associated block (30) in destination space and from the transform coefficients. The bounding box dimensions may be calculated so as to provide the most efficient transfers.
