Electronic devices have a PCB with a heat-generating component (e.g., POP or SOC), a heat sink, and an EMI shielding structure. A combination structure can include a top heat spreader/EMI shield located above and in thermal contact with the POP/SOC top, a bottom heat spreader/EMI shield located below and in thermal contact with the POP/SOC bottom, and a heat-directing component located on the PCB, laterally surrounding a majority of the POP/SOC sides, and between and in thermal contact with the top and bottom heat spreaders. Resulting heat paths for the POP/SOC include one through its top to the top heat spreader, another through its bottom to the bottom heat spreader, and others through its sides through the PCB through the heat-directing component to the top and bottom heat spreaders. The heat-directing component can be a metal horseshoe shaped pad integrally formed onto the PCB.

Combination parallel path heatsink and EMI shield

An integrated circuit includes display processing components to process pixel data of digital video. The integrated circuit also includes mask-programmable logic integrated with one or more of the display processing components to receive the pixel data in a first color space and at least a second color space, where the mask-programmable logic can further process the pixel data to enhance the digital video.

Integrated circuit to process data in multiple color spaces

An integrated circuit has a substantially non-customizable hardware portion and a mask-programmable logic portion. An image processing function common to many different makes and models of a type of electronic consumer device (for example, an image display device) is performed by the substantially non-customizable hardware portion. The substantially non-customizable hardware portion also outputs pixel data in both a first color space format and a second color space format. The mask-programmble logic portion can be mask-programmed for an individual manufacturer of electronic consumer devices such that the mask-programmable logic portion performs an additional special function specific to the electronic consumer devices of the individual manufacturer. Certain functions are better or more easily performed on pixel data in one color space format than another. Pixel data is therefore supplied to the mask-programmable hardware portion in multiple different color space formats, or in a selectable one of multiple different color space formats.

Customizable ASIC with substantially non-customizable portion that supplies pixel data to a mask-programmable portion in multiple color space formats

A method is disclosed whereby an inexpensive integrated circuit is provided for use in high volume electronic consumer devices of different makes, wherein each different make must perform a different special function. A common function required in all the different makes is realized in a substantially non-customizable portion. A dense mask-programmable portion is provided for realizing a special function. Interface circuitry is provided that enables an external FPGA to perform the special function at system operating speeds during system development. After system development, the circuitry implemented in the external FPGA is technology-mapped to the mask-programmable portion. A single mask is fashioned such that versions of the integrated circuit are produced with their mask-programmable portions customized to perform the special function. I/O terminals that were used to couple to the external FPGA during system development are usable during normal operation to provide system board access to circuitry within the mask-programmable portion.
