Systems and methods include the following. Information about a first electronic communication device is transmitted to at least one server and/or decentralized infrastructure. The information includes vicinity information. A status signal associated with a first user of the first electronic communication device is optionally transmitted. Contact proximity network information about a contact proximity network is received. The contact proximity network is based on the information from a plurality of electronic communication devices and information about the association between users and electronic communication devices. The contact proximity network information includes status signal information and interconnected nodes corresponding to different users and pairwise connections between users based upon their relative physical space and time proximity. A notification indicating a network-based proximity of a first user to a second user is provided, indicating a minimum number of connections between the first user and the second user during a specified time frame.

Implementations for adaptive learning include actions of: outputting a practice problem having a problem difficulty rating, in which the practice problem is identified by one or more concept tags, each concept tag relating to a different subject-matter area that forms a basis of the practice problem; receiving an answer from a user to the practice problem; responsive to receiving the answer, determining whether the answer includes a correct or incorrect response to the practice problem; responsive to determining whether the answer includes a correct or incorrect response, updating, for each of the different subject-matter areas, a corresponding user specific comprehension rating and the problem difficulty rating of the practice problem, based on whether the answer includes a correct or incorrect response; and outputting, for at least one of the different subject areas that forms the basis of the practice problem, the updated user specific comprehension rating.

Adaptive learning system using automatically-rated problems and pupils

A 'Stochastic Clustering-Based Network Generator' enables rapid formation of an interconnected hierarchical network structure from an arbitrary number of agents via an iterative turn-based coalescence process. Given N agents wishing to coalesce into one hierarchical network, a turn-based process allows each agent (or the head of each hierarchical cluster of agents), to randomly decide whether to issue or listen for merge requests in each round. Issuing a request amounts to contacting a randomly chosen agent with a merge request. Given multiple received requests, a cluster head will randomly accept one request for a merge received by any agent in that cluster. The requesting cluster then merges as a hierarchical child of the accepting cluster. In a related embodiment, given multiple merge requests, the request from the smallest cluster is accepted. In further embodiments, ties of the smallest cluster size are broken based on various options.
