A channel activating method and a peripheral device are provided for activating a serial transmission channel to retrieve at least one firmware instruction from a host. The peripheral device includes a serial transmission port coupled to the host, a microprocessor coupled to the serial transmission port for performing functions of the peripheral device according to the firmware instruction, a memory for holding the firmware instruction, a trigger generator for generating a trigger signal by monitoring a control signal received from the host via the serial transmission port, and a signal generator, coupled to the trigger generator, for generating an indication signal to the host via the serial transmission port according to the trigger signal to activate the serial transmission channel.

Channel activating method and peripheral device performing the same

The invention provides a method for data recovery. In one embodiment, a memory comprises a plurality of pages for data storage. First, first data is obtained from a host. A first page for storing the first data is then selected from the pages of the memory. A start page link indicating the first page is then stored in the memory. The first data, a first page link indicating a next page, and first FTL fragment data corresponding to the first page are then written into the first page. Next data is then obtained from the host. The next data, a next page link indicating a subsequent page, and FTL fragment data corresponding to the next page are written into the next page.

Method for data recovery for flash devices

Memory systems and mapping methods thereof are provided. In one embodiment of a memory system, an interface device is coupled between a flash memory and a host and stores a flash translation layer. The flash translation layer utilizes a data block mapping table and a page mapping table to manage data blocks and log blocks of the flash memory by a page mapping scheme and utilizes a random write page mapping table independent from the block mapping table and the page mapping table to manage the random write blocks by a random write mapping scheme. When a first predetermined condition is satisfied, the flash translation layer converts one of the data blocks (and one of the log block corresponding to the converted data block if any) into random write block(s) and utilizes the random write mapping schemes to manage the random write block(s). When a second predetermined condition is satisfied, the flash translation layer merges and converts random write block(s) into a data block and utilizes the page mapping scheme to manage the converted random write block(s).

An exemplary data recording method of an optical storage medium includes following steps: during a current recording operation for recording first data onto the optical storage medium, detecting if a fatal recording error occurs; and when the fatal recording error is detected, activating a current verifying operation to verify correctness of a recorded data section on the optical storage medium. The recorded data section is recorded onto the optical storage medium according to second data during a previous recording operation, and data recording of the second data has been verified during a previous verifying operation prior to the current recording operation.
