In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a provisioning method for establishing a telecommunications service including the operations of sending a resynchronization message to a user terminal unit, redirecting the resynchronization message to a customer premises equipment (CPE) unit, acquiring the configuration server network address from the resynchronization message, connecting the CPE unit through the network to a configuration server specified in the configuration server network address, receiving subscriber configuration data from the configuration server; and initializing the CPE unit with the received subscriber configuration data to establish service between the CPE unit and the telecommunications service provider.

Generic provisioning of voice over internet protocol (VoIP)

A method to systematically analyze a next generation telecommunications network to result in creating a provisioning plan for provisioning the network to provide services for one or more subscribers. In one specific embodiment, the method involves creating and storing information that represents a logical decomposition of the next generation network into a plurality of discrete functional areas. The information representing the functional areas is analyzed to identify one or more provisioning requirements for each of the functional areas. One or more provisioning procedures are determined, and one or more required provisioning tools are identified for each of the functional areas, based on the provisioning requirements. A sequence of execution of the procedures and tools is created and stored as a provisioning plan.

Automation of customer premises equipment provisioning in a telecommunications network

A method of automation of subscriber customer premises equipment provisioning for use in a next generation telecommunications network. In one specific embodiment, the method involves receiving a service request from a network service provider that specifies a service to be provided to the customer premises equipment. A configuration template for a configuration appropriate for the customer premises equipment is retrieved. Configuration data is automatically generated for the customer premises equipment based on the configuration template and stored system configuration information. The completed configuration data is automatically delivered over the network to the customer premises equipment to result in configuring the customer premises equipment to provide the service. Embodiments are useful for configuring ADSL and T1 CPE devices in a voice-over-ATM network that uses Internet Protocol.
