A system for measuring electrical network parameters may include a voltage sensing node of an electrical network with a first clock and a current sensing node of the electrical network with a second clock. At least one of the voltage sensing node and the current sensing node synchronizes the first clock with the second clock. The voltage sensing node samples a voltage signal from a voltage transducer and the current sensing node samples a plurality of current signals from respective current transducers. The voltage sensing node resamples the sampled voltage signal to determine corresponding resampled voltage signals, and the current sensing node resamples each of the sampled current signals to determine corresponding resampled current signals. The voltage sensing node communicates (1) corresponding re-sampled voltage signals and (2) a voltage time stamp based on the synchronized first clock associated with the sampled voltage signal to the current sensing node through a communication link. The system calculates electrical network parameters at the current sensing node based upon the re-sampled voltage signals and the re-sampled current signals.

Distributed electrical energy meter

A system for verifying applications for Real-Time Execution (RTE) devices is provided. The system includes a memory, at least one processor coupled to the memory, and a simulation component executable by the at least one processor. The simulation component may be configured to receive device simulation information for an RTE device, the device simulation information including device configuration information, application information, and targeted performance information, configure a virtual device simulator to simulate performance of the RTE device, run the virtual device simulator to process one or more simulated events, and output simulation results.

Systems and methods for verification and deployment of applications to programmable devices

Verification systems are provided for verification of proper execution of control commands on remote devices. In some embodiments, the verification systems can include video cameras, audio sensors, thermal detectors, etc., to provide secondary sources of information by which to verify primary reports on a state of a remote device. Each device can be associated with a device profile defining operating characteristics of the remote device in various states. In some examples, device properties can also be defined based on a current state of the device and a received control command. In some examples, the device profiles are models of expected device properties that can used to verify proper execution of control commands. In some embodiments, detection of state mismatch can trigger a variety of actions by the system to mediate the mismatched state according to a variety of control rules.

Systems and methods for advanced confirmation of control operations

A power meter for measuring power parameters on one or more electrical power lines/loads is configured to include a revenue class metering module and a power quality metering module. The revenue class metering module and the power quality metering module may use the same measured voltage and current signals to generate revenue accurate power consumption information and power quality information, respectively. The power meter may also include a plurality of filters configured to attenuate high frequency signals included in the voltage and current signals. Each of the filters may be configured with a corner frequency, gain and signal propagation delay that is substantially equal. The filtered current and voltage signals may be received and processed by the revenue class metering module, and the power quality metering module to generate revenue accurate power consumption information and power quality information, respectively. Alternatively, the filtered current and voltage signals may be received and processed by the power quality metering module to generate power quality information, and unfiltered current and voltage signals may be received and processed by the revenue class metering module to generate revenue accurate power consumption information.

Revenue class power meter with frequency rejection

Power quality detection, monitoring, reporting, recording and communication in a revenue accuracy electrical power meter is disclosed. Transient events are detected by monitoring the wave shape of the electrical power and comparing deviations to a known threshold. Sags and Swells are detected by computing root mean square value over a rolling window and comparing the computed value with a known threshold. Harmonic frequencies and symmetrical components are quantified by a known algorithm and compared with a known threshold. Incoming waveforms are stored to memory. All recorded and computed data is moved to non-volatile storage via direct memory access transfer in the event that a power quality event jeopardizes the operating power of the meter. Further, the meter provides a power supply utilizing high and low capacitive storage banks to supply sufficient energy to survive short duration power quality events which jeopardize the meter's operating power.

An intelligent electronic device (IED) includes a base module having a power monitoring circuit operative to monitor a parameter of a portion of a power distribution system and generate an analog signal representative thereof. The base module also includes a processor coupled with the power monitoring circuit, the processor having an analog to digital converter operative to convert the analog signal to a digital signal representative thereof. The processor operates to implement a first power management functionality and generate first power management data. At least one of a display and a communications interface couple with the processor and communicate the first power management data external to the IED. A first interface couples with the processor and the communications interface. The first interface operates to receive a first external function module. The first external function module includes a second power management functionality, where the first interface further facilitates implementation of the second power management functionality.

Expandable intelligent electronic device

An IED includes a power monitoring circuit operative to monitor a parameter of a portion of a power distribution system and generate an analog signal representative thereof. A processor couples with the power monitoring circuit and operates to receive the analog signal and at least one of quantify and report the monitored parameter. The processor further includes an integrated circuit, the integrated circuit having a non-volatile memory operative to store program code for the processor. A digital processing core couples with the non-volatile memory and operates to execute the stored program code to implement the quantifying and reporting functions. A volatile memory couples with the processing core and operates to store working data code for the digital processing core during execution of the stored program code.

Intelligent electronic device with assured data storage on powerdown

A system for improving accuracy of an intelligent electronic device operable to monitor electrical energy using metering sensors is disclosed. The metering sensors may be tested to determine characteristic curves by simulating operating conditions. The characteristic curves may be developed and transferred to the intelligent electronic device or may be developed by the intelligent electronic device through self-testing. The intelligent electronic device may apply the characteristic curves during operation of the intelligent electronic device.

Systems for improved monitoring accuracy of intelligent electronic devices

An intelligent electronic device for measuring various power parameters from a electrical power distribution system is disclosed. The device is capable of measuring and reporting the reliability of the electrical power distribution system as the number of consecutive 9's digits appearing in the computed percentage of system downtime versus system uptime. The number of 9's is computed in a manner which does not incur inaccuracies at high resolutions due to digital floating point mathematical computation methods.

A-base revenue meter with power quality features

A method and apparatus for automatically controlling gain switching of a monitor. To automatically control gain switching, an electronic circuit splits an input channel into a plurality of gain channels. The plurality of gain channels are simultaneously sampled. Thereafter, the processor accesses a present buffer of a first gain channel. The present buffer contains a predetermined amount of samples which represent the input channel. Next, the processor determines whether at least one of the samples contained in the present buffer is saturated. If at least one of the samples is saturated, the processor selects an alternate gain channel. Otherwise, if none of the samples is saturated, the processor determines whether a previous buffer of the first gain channel is saturated. If none of the samples from the previous buffer are saturated, the DSP selects the first gain channel. Otherwise, the DSP selects the alternate gain channel. Thereafter, the samples are processed from more than one of the plurality of gain channels to calculate power parameters.
