A phased-array receiver that may be effectively implemented on a silicon substrate. A receiver includes multiple radio frequency (RF) front-ends, each configured to receive a signal with a given delay relative to the others such that the gain of the received signal is highest in a given direction. The receiver also includes a power combination network configured to accept an RF signal from each of the RF front-ends and to pass a combined RF signal to a down-conversion element, where the power distribution network includes a combination of active and passive components. Each RF front-end includes a phase shifter configured to delay the signal in accordance with the given direction and a variable amplifier configured to adjust the gain of the signal.

Phased-array transceiver for millimeter-wave frequencies

A phased-array transmitter and receiver that may be effectively implemented on a silicon substrate. The transmitter distributes to front-ends, and the receiver combines signals from front-ends, using a power distribution/combination tree that employs both passive and active elements. By monitoring the power inputs and outputs, a digital control is able to rapidly provide phase and gain correction information to the front-ends. Such a transmitter/receiver includes a plurality of radio frequency (RF) front-ends and a power splitting/combining network that includes active and passive components configured to distribute signals to/from the front-ends.

An oscillator includes N greater than unity gain amplifiers, N being at least two. Each of the N greater than unity gain amplifiers has a pair of differential input terminals and a pair of differential output terminals. The oscillator further includes a first pair of variable resistances, N&#x2212;1 pairs of variable resistances, N&#x2212;1 pairs of variable capacitances, and a variable capacitance. The pairs of variable resistances couple differential output terminals of the N greater than unity gain amplifiers. The pairs of variable capacitances couple differential input terminals of the N greater than unity gain amplifiers. Each of the N greater than unity gain amplifiers includes a linearized operational transconductance amplifier stage coupled to a corresponding pair of the differential input terminals, and a unity gain buffer with feedback interconnected between the linearized operational transconductance amplifier stage and a corresponding pair of the differential output terminals.

Self calibrated, broadband, tunable, active oscillator with unity gain cells for multi-standard and/or multiband channel selection

An exemplary filter includes N (&#x2267;2) unity gain amplifiers, each with a pair of differential input terminals and a pair of differential output terminals; a pair of filter differential input terminals; a first pair of variable resistances coupling the pair of filter differential input terminals to the pair of differential input terminals of the first unity gain amplifier; N&#x2212;1 pairs of variable resistances coupling the pairs of differential output terminals of each of the N unity gain amplifiers, other than the last one, to the pairs of differential input terminals of its downstream neighbor; N&#x2212;1 pairs of variable capacitances coupling the pairs of differential input terminals of each of the N unity gain amplifiers, other than the last one, to the pairs of differential output terminals of its downstream neighbor; and a variable capacitance coupling the pair of differential input terminals of the last unity gain amplifier to each other.
