A process for pyrolysis of a mixed plastic stream that contains polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is provided in which the chloride from PVC is removed from an initial melting reactor that heats the mixed plastic stream to a sufficient temperature to produce HCl but at a low enough temperature to avoid production of organochlorides. Chloride is primarily removed in a vapor stream from the initial melting reactor, while additional chloride removal may be removed downstream from the melting reactor by the use of sorbent addition to the pyrolysis reactor and by subsequent adsorbent beds.

Process for PVC-containing mixed plastic waste pyrolysis

A process for pyrolysis of a mixed plastic stream that contains polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is provided in which the chloride from PVC is removed from an initial melting reactor that melts the mixed plastic stream. Chloride is removed in a vapor stream from the initial melting reactor with additional chloride removed from addition of sorbents to the pyrolysis reactor and in adsorbent beds downstream of the pyrolysis reactor. The pyrolysis reactor has a configuration comprising two cylindrical ring structures, an inner cylindrical ring structure within an outer cylindrical ring structure wherein a circulation liquid supply stream enters said pyrolysis reactor tangentially relative to a ring edge of said two cylindrical ring structures and wherein solid particles move in a downward direction to a bottom of the pyrolysis reactor.

Process for PVC-containing mixed plastic waste pyrolysis in a reactor handling three phases of products

Process and apparatus for recovering a product stream from a waste plastic feedstock and reducing the endpoint of the product stream is provided. A polymer oil is produced as a product stream by pyrolyzing the waste plastic feedstock in a pyrolysis reactor to produce a pyrolysis reactor effluent and passing the reactor effluent stream to a contact condensing column. In the contact condensing column, the pyrolysis reactor effluent stream is separated into a vapor product stream and a liquid product stream. The vapor product stream is recovered from the condensing column and the liquid product stream is passed back to the pyrolysis reactor for further reduction.

Process for recovering polymer oil

A process is provided for utilizing polypropylene-containing waste plastic. The process provides pyrolyzing a plastic feed in a pyrolysis reactor to obtain a pyrolysis effluent stream. The process further provides passing the pyrolysis effluent stream to a distillation column to obtain a Chydrocarbons rich stream which is also dimethylheptenes rich and then passing the Chydrocarbons rich stream to a reforming unit to provide a reformate stream. The process further provides passing the reformate stream to a transalkylation unit to provide a mixed-xylenes stream.

Process for converting plastic feed containing polypropylene to aromatics

A SHC apparatus and process comprise a catalyst precursor reactor for providing a catalyst precursor stream in downstream communication with a source of molybdenum, a SHC feed line for providing a heavy hydrocarbon feed stream in downstream communication with a heater, and a SHC reactor in downstream communication with the SHC feed line and with the catalyst precursor reactor. A process for SHC, the process comprising preparing a catalyst precursor stream comprising molybdenum in a catalyst precursor reactor, mixing the catalyst precursor stream with a heavy hydrocarbon stream to provide a catalyst precursor concentrate stream, heating a hydrocracking hydrocarbon feed stream in a heater to provide a heated hydrocracking feed stream, mixing the catalyst precursor concentrate stream with the heated hydrocarbon stream to provide a SHC feed stream, and reacting the SHC feed stream in a SHC reactor.

Process and apparatus for introducing catalyst precursor into slurry hydrocracking reactor

The subject process enhances catalytic activity for demetallization and desulfurization of a residue feed stream by splitting a recycle hydrogen stream and feeding each of the split hydrogen streams to the first and second stages of demetallation and desulfurization, respectively, with interstage separation. The recycle hydrogen stream may first undergo scrubbing to remove acid gases and compression before recycle. The recycle hydrogen stream is taken from a first hot vapor stream from the first hydrotreating unit and a second hot vapor stream from the second hydrotreating unit.

Process for hydrotreating a residue stream with hydrogen recycle

A process for hydrotreating a hydrocarbon residue stream is provided. The process comprises hydrotreating the hydrocarbon residue stream over a demetallation catalyst to demetallize the hydrocarbon residue stream to provide a demetallized hydrocarbon residue stream reduced in metals and sulfur concentration. The demetallized hydrocarbon residue stream is separated in a hot separator to provide an overhead vapor stream comprising hydrogen and a bottoms liquid stream. The bottoms liquid stream is split into a first liquid stream and a second liquid stream comprising low sulfur fuel oil. The second liquid stream is recovered as a low sulfur fuel oil product stream. The first liquid stream is hydrotreated over a desulfurization catalyst in the presence of at least a portion of the overhead vapor stream to provide a desulfurized hydrocarbon residue stream. The present process provides low sulfur fuel oil product stream comprising from about 0.3 wt % to about 1.5 wt % sulfur.

Process for hydrotreating a hydrocarbon residue stream

A process using a dealkylated aromatic liquid improves a heavy hydrocarbon liquid used for supporting molybdenum carbonized catalyst. Dealkylated aromatic liquid can be derived from heavy hydrocarbon materials that have been subjected to cracking, such as fluid catalytic cracking or slurry hydrocracking. The heavy hydrocarbon liquid can comprise a portion of resid SHC feed and a portion of a gas oil stream from SHC effluent.

Process for making and using metal catalyst for slurry hydrocracking

Recycle of slurry hydrocracked product to a subsequent slurry hydrocracking reactor downstream of a lead slurry hydrocracking reactor produces reduced mesophase and provides better reactor stability as opposed to recycle to the lead slurry hydrocracking reactor. The recycle stream may be a vacuum bottoms stream and/or a slop wax stream from a fractionation column.

Process and apparatus for recycling slurry hydrocracked product

Slurry hydrocracking processes are described. The methods include hydrotreating a heavy residual hydrocarbon feed in a hydrotreating zone under residual hydrotreating conditions to form a hydrotreated effluent. The hydrotreated effluent is separated in an first separator to form an overhead vapor stream and a bottoms stream. The bottoms stream is hydrocracked in a slurry hydrocracking zone under slurry hydrocracking conditions. The effluent from the slurry hydrocracking zone is fractionated in a fractionation zone into at least two streams. Slurry hydrocracking apparatus is also described.

Integrated hydrotreating and slurry hydrocracking process

Settling unconverted pitch from a SHC reactor effluent before fractionation improves efficiency of fractionation of slurry hydrocracked products. The recycle of soft pitch to the SHC reactor results in improved reactor operation by avoiding the recycle of lighter products which vaporize in the reactor to occupy reactor space and the recycle of hard pitch which will not convert. The settling step facilitated by mixing with a solvent can achieve a separation between soft pitch and hard pitch not achievable in a fractionation column.

Process and apparatus for recovering hydrocracked soft pitch

A vacuum separator is used to separate a pitch stream from a slurry hydrocracking reactor upstream of the product fractionation column. The process and apparatus removes pitch from the product streams to enable easier separation of light VGO from heavy VGO in a fractionation column.

Process and apparatus for recovering hydrocracked effluent with vacuum separation

Processes for hydrotreating an effluent from a slurry hydrocracking process are described. Different streams are formed from the SHC effluent, and different hydroprocessing conditions are applied to the streams, e.g., more severe conditions are applied to streams which need additional hydroprocessing, while less severe conditions are applied to streams which do not need as much hydroprocessing. Common equipment is shared between different hydroprocessing steps.

Flexible hydroprocessing of slurry hydrocracking products

The subject process enhances catalytic activity for demetallization and desulfurization of a residue feed stream by injecting water into the feed and hydrotreating in two stages with interstage separation. Water injection improves the demetallation activity of the HDM catalyst and separating vapor comprising hydrogen sulfide from the demetallized effluent improves the activity of the HDS catalyst. We have discovered that the water injection and hydrogen sulfide removal together provide a profound synergetic effect.

Process for hydrotreating a residue stream

An integrated process and apparatus for conversion of gas oil and heavy oil is described. The process includes passing a gas oil feed to a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) zone to obtain a FCC effluent; separating the FCC effluent in a separation zone into at least two fractions comprising a clarified slurry oil fraction and an overhead fraction; passing the clarified slurry oil fraction to a slurry hydrocracking zone forming at least a naphtha stream; and recycling at least a portion of the slurry hydrocracking naphtha stream to the FCC zone.
