An event clearinghouse engine is used with a data storage system to modify event disposition associated with components. A separate component disposition table is provided for each component. The component disposition table specifies different sets of disposition modifications for different types of events as indicated by event ID. A global disposition rule mapping table includes disposition modifications which are applied to all events. Per-vendor and per-tenant tables may be used to specify disposition modifications for particular vendors and tenants. Mode-specific tables such as a rescue/recovery mode table may be used to specify disposition modifications when the storage system is in a particular mode. The tables may be implemented in stages, including parallel and serial application.

Stackable system event clearinghouse for cloud computing

Software configuration changes are made in a digital computer by executing selected opcodes to add new features. When executing each opcode, a persistent record is kept of execution of each elementary command of the opcode. To recover from a failure of execution of an opcode, remediation opcodes are executed for a known error, or else the persistent record of execution is accessed to identify executed commands of the opcode, and the executed commands are reverted in reverse order by undoing changes made to the software configuration by the executed commands of the opcode. The resulting configuration of the digital computer is compared to a backup copy of the configuration existing at the start of execution of the opcode. If the reversion of the executed commands of the opcode has not reproduced the backup configuration, then the configuration of the digital computer is restored to the backup configuration.

Fault tolerant state machine for configuring software in a digital computer

A method for adding file based storage hardware to a block based storage system includes detecting, by the file based storage hardware, an electrical coupling between the file based storage hardware and the block based storage system, the block based storage system having a set of logical units (LUs) predefined as file based storage hardware specific LUs. The method includes forwarding, by the file based storage hardware, an initiator record to the block based storage system, the initiator record configured to control access by the file based storage hardware to data stored by the block based storage system and the initiator record having a file based storage hardware specific identifier. The method includes, following the block based storage system associating the initiator record having the file based storage hardware specific identifier with the predefined file based storage hardware specific LUs, establishing a communication path with the block based storage system.

Automated addition of file based hardware and file based access services in a data storage system

A unified scribed image for installing software on different storage system platforms and configurations is described. The scribed image is produced by installing on a reference storage system reference system software including reference system core components usable by all storage systems, and reference system unique components used only by the reference storage system. Reference system software representing shared components used by pairs of storage systems is added. The reference system software related to the reference system unique components is then removed. The remaining core components and shared components to are scribed to media to produce the unified scribed image. Methods of using the unified scribed image to install storage system software in various storage systems are also described.
