Methods are provided for producing a biaxially oriented nanoporous UHMWPE membrane. The method can include combining a petroleum jelly, an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), and an antioxidant, forming a suspension, feeding the suspension into an extruder to produce a gel filament, pressing the gel filament to form a gel film, subjecting the gel film to an annealing temperature, and extracting the petroleum jelly from the gel film.

Nanoporous ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene membrane

An all-solid-state battery system having a solid-state electrolyte composite is provided. The solid-state electrolyte composite includes a porous framework providing support and mechanical strength for the solid-state electrolyte composite and a plurality of ionic conductors filling voids of the porous framework for maximizing ionic conductance of the solid-state electrolyte composite. The porous framework may be made of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) polymers and the plurality of ionic conductors may be made of poly(ethylene oxide)-LiN(SOCF)(PEO-LiTFSI) polymers. The all-solid-state battery system includes battery cells each including a cathode current collector, a cathode disposed beneath and connected to the cathode current collector, the solid-state electrolyte composite disposed beneath and connected to the cathode, an anode disposed beneath and connected to the solid-state electrolyte composite, and an anode current collector disposed beneath and connected to the anode.

Framework supported solid-state electrolyte composites for all-solid-state batteries

An ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) membrane has at least one nanoporous UHMWPE film, where each of the nanoporous UHMWPE film is biaxial oriented with a thickness of 0.1 to 12 &#x3bc;m and pores that exclude particles in excess of 10 nm with a total porosity of 65 to 75 percent. The nanoporous UHMWPE film can be coated or laminated by a hydrophilic polymer to form a Janus membrane and can be made with a multilayer composite structure. The UHMWPE membrane can be used in a device for molecular distillation (MD), reverse osmosis (RO), or forward osmosis (FO).

Thin polymer membrane for treatment of saline water

Disclosed are a method of manufacturing a polyethylene membrane comprising: stretching a polyethylene film in a first direction during a first stretching; attaching a plurality of rods on side edges of the polyethylene film; attaching a tape on the polyethylene film; stretching the polyethylene film having the rods attached thereto in a second direction during a second stretching; and annealing the polyethylene film after the second stretching. The second direction can be a transverse direction of the first direction, and the first stretching and the second stretching can be performed at the same (or higher) temperature and the same stretching speed as each other.

Method for synthesis of flexible multifunctional high-voidage ultrathin PE membranes

A method is described for treating fabrics, yarns and individual fibers to improve the mechanical properties thereof, for example their wrinkle-resistance, by treating the fabric, yarn, and fibers in a solution containing polymer nanoparticles. The nanoparticles include two sizes of particles and an appropriate selection of the nanoparticles to control the degree and mode of cross-linking in the fabric with corresponding control of the mechanical properties. The nanoparticles can be provided with an electrical charge that can be opposite in sign to any charge carried by the fabric in order to enhance the formation of a polymer film on the fabric.

Methods of fabric treatment

The invention relates to a process for making a carbon nanotubes/ultra-high molar mass polyethylene (CNTs/UHPE) composite fiber comprising the steps of a) pre-treating CNTs with an acidic aqueous solution; b) making a composition containing pre-treated CNTs dispersed in a solution of UHPE in a spin solvent; and c) spinning the composition obtained into fibers; wherein step b) comprises making a dispersion of pre-treated CNTs in an alcohol, and mixing this dispersion with a mixture of UHPE and spin solvent. With this process CNTs/UHPE composite fibers showing improved tensile properties are obtained at relatively low CNTs content. A further advantage is that no or hardly any additional components, like dispersion aids, need to be added to make a stable dispersion of CNTs in the spin composition. The invention also relates to a CNTs/UHPE composite fiber obtainable by the process according to the invention, and to semi-finished or end-use articles containing said composite fiber.
