Electrical female terminal

An electrical connector is provided. The electrical connector can be a low profile, high voltage connector that can include a male housing and a female housing. The male housing can support male pins that mate with terminals disposed through the female housing. The bend or outward extension of the pins can support forming one row or dual rows of solder pads.

An electrical female terminal for mating with a connector assembly generally including a main body, a two-bodied spring, A protrusion extends from an unattached end portion of the lever member, the protrusion having faces angled relative to each other to efficiently deflect the lever member upwards when the protrusion interacts with an internal protrusion of a housing or a connector assembly, which in turn makes the electrical female terminal more difficult to remove from the housing or the connector assembly to thereby protect the electrical female terminal against the electrical female terminal from falling out during use. A top portion of the retainer member of the electrical female terminal, located above the two-bodied spring, has a dimple portion to increase the number of contacts to an upper spring of the two-bodied spring, so as to increase the stiffness of the two-bodied spring. The terminal face or leading end portion of the electrical female terminal is prevented from damaging or cutting a silicone seal, which seals the connector assembly from environmental contaminants, during mating therewith by providing thereon a recessed top face portion and a recessed bottom face portion. The overstress feature of the tang member of the lever is improved upon by relocating and reshaping the protruding member thereof.

An Insulation Displacement Contact Compliant connector system (IDCC) which includes a housing, header pins, and a Printed Circuit Board (PCB). Each header pin has at least a single barb to be retained into the housing. Each pin has a blade for contacting a wire. A compliant feature on the pin retains itself into holes in the PCB. The housing has a negative space similarly shaped to the pin. The housing includes a strain relief which provides a lead-in for a wire. When the system is fully assembled, the pins reside in the housing, and exit through the housing and into and through respective holes in the PCB. A wire can be inserted into the housing once the pins reside in the housing.

IDCC connection system and process

An electrical connector is provided. The electrical connector can include a female housing and a terminal position assurance member forming a pre-installed assembly. The TPA member can be in a final lock position to provide reinforcement or secondary locking for a terminal, and terminal position assurance. A male housing can be provided to receive the assembly.

An electrical male terminal of this invention includes a clamp or crimp area, a main body, and a blade. Protruding members and support members of the main body act as overstress protection. A panel shield member protects a protruding guide member. In another embodiment of this invention, a protruding member extends from a first support member of the main body, and a cut-out portion at the lower portion of the main body accommodates therein the protruding member. Furthermore, in this another embodiment of the electrical male terminal of this invention, a protrusion extends from the unattached end portion of the lever member to protect the electrical male terminal from inadvertently falling out during use. The configuration or shape of the cross-section across the upper portion at the front portion of the main body and the support member at the front portion of the main body of the electrical male terminal is substantially U-shaped. The configuration or shape of the cross-section across the attached portion of the lever member of the electrical male terminal is substantially U-shaped. The electrical male terminal is formed, substantially in its entirety, as a contiguous and continuous single construction having included therein at least the main body, the clamp or crimp area, and the neck area that joins the main body and the clamp or crimp area, and/or the lever member (or tang member) and/or the blade.

An electrical male terminal of this invention includes a clamp or crimp area, a main body, and a blade. Protruding members and support members of the main body act as overstress protection. A panel shield member protects a protruding guide member. In another embodiment of this invention, a protruding member extends from a first support member of the main body, and a cut-out portion at the lower portion of the main body accommodates therein the protruding member to prevent the tang member from inadvertently or accidentally rotating relative to the lower portion of the main body. Furthermore, in this another embodiment of the electrical male terminal of this invention, a protrusion extends from the unattached end portion of the lever member for allowing the lever member to deflect upward when the protruding member of the unattached end portion interacts with an internal protrusion of a housing or connector assembly, thereby making it more difficult to remove the electrical male terminal from the housing or connector assembly, thereby protecting the electrical male terminal from inadvertently falling out during use.

A tubular high current female terminal for mating with a male terminal having an outer terminal, and at least one core terminal. The outer terminal includes at least a mating portion and a termination portion. The core terminal includes a plurality of spring contacts, and preferably, latches for attaching thereof on an elongated opening of the outer terminal. The outer terminal is a seamless preformed tube that extends from the mating portion integrally extending to the termination portion as a single piece. A plurality of tubular high current female terminals may be joined together at termination portions thereof. Also, the tubular high current female terminal may have mating portions at opposing ends thereof, such that the male terminals respectively connected thereto extend at any desired angle. Furthermore, the mating portion may be a cylindric tube for mating with a cylindric male terminal, while the termination portion is attachable to an electrical cable.

A protrusion extends from an unattached end portion of the lever member, the protrusion having faces angled relative to each other to efficiently deflect the lever member upwards when the protrusion interacts with an internal protrusion of a housing or a connector assembly. A top portion of the retainer member of the electrical female terminal, located above the two-bodied spring, has a dimple portion.
