A system and computer-implemented method for pallet management and constructing a pallet stack may include generating a virtual pallet stack using virtual packages having sizes and shapes corresponding with known available actual packages. In response to identifying an actual package to be placed on a pallet, an indication may be provided to a worker where the identified actual package is to be placed on the pallet stack based on the location of a corresponding virtual package on the virtual pallet stack.

A scanning device includes: a motion sensor to detect motion imparted to the scanning device; a distance detector to determine a distance between the scanning device and a surface; an infrared detector to capture a temperature of the surface; an image sensor to capture an image of an indicia encoding data on the surface; and a processor configured to store the captured image and temperature, configured to operate the motion sensor to detect motion being imparted to the scanning device when in a low power state, and configured to transition the scanning device out of the low power state in response to such imparted motion by: operating the distance detector to determine the distance to the surface; and determining whether to operate the infrared detector to capture the temperature of the surface and whether to operate the image sensor to capture the image of the indicia, based on the distance.

A processor of the mobile device may initiate a warm swap procedure in response to receiving a request from a user operating the mobile device. The processor generate a first notification signal to indicate to the user to wait before removing the battery from the mobile device. In response to execution of the warm swap procedure, the processor generates a second notification signal to indicate to the user that the battery of the mobile device is safe to be warm swapped with a charged battery.

A system and method for managing packages may include determining an identifier on a package. A determination as to whether the package is to be positioned on a pallet based on the identifier may be made. In response to determining that the package is not to be positioned on the pallet, a first feedback signal (e.g., red light) indicative to the operator that the package is not to be placed on the pallet may be generated. In response to determining that the package is to be positioned on the pallet, a second feedback signal (e.g., green light) that is indicative to the operator that the package is to be on the pallet may be generated or no signal may be generated. Additionally, if an identifier cannot be read from the package, then a third feedback signal (e.g., yellow light) may be generated and illuminated on the package or elsewhere.

In response to detecting the occurrence of the gesture, an at least attempt is triggered to decode one or more machine-readable symbols represented in the images. The gesture may be used to indicate a region of interest that includes the machine-readable symbol. Such indication may improve the efficiency and processing time needed to detect and decode a machine-readable symbol.

Scanners, methods, and computer storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that process variable sized objects with high package pitch on a moving conveyor belt are provided. The scanners include a substrate and a plurality of sensors attached to the substrate. The plurality of sensors forms an array of sensors having at least two or more rows of off-axis sensors. The sensors may include a one or more area array sensors. The arrays of sensors captures moving objects row by row and are optimized reduce object spacing on the conveyor belt. Additionally, the scanner having the array of sensor may process different objects having different heights at the same time. Accordingly, object throughput on the conveyor belt is increased by reducing minimum object gap (e.g., processing of 'no gap' or non-singulated objects).

The data reading system includes a housing, a data reader disposed within the housing, the data reader configured to read the encoded data from the item through a scan window on the housing. A clamp secures the housing to a receiving post on a base mount, and supports rotational movement of the housing about both a first axis and a second axis. In one configuration, the clamp and receiving post each include through holes that together form a passageway to support a communication/power cable from the base mount through the passageway and into an interior portion of the housing to communicate with and/or provide power to the data reader without limiting rotational movement of the housing.
