A process for the synthesis of methanol from an input stream of synthesis gas, comprising the following steps: subjecting a portion of said input stream as feed stream to an adiabatic reactive step, providing an effluent containing methanol and unreacted synthesis gas; quenching of said effluent with a further portion of said input stream, providing a quenched stream; subjecting said quenched stream to an isothermal reactive step, providing a methanol-containing product stream.

Process for methanol production

Process for the synthesis of methanol comprising: reforming a hydrocarbon feedstock into a synthesis gas containing carbon oxides and hydrogen in a molar ratio (H&#x2014;CO)/(CO+CO) lower than 1.7; elevating said molar ratio to a value of at least 1.9; compressing said synthesis gas and converting the same into crude methanol; separating said crude methanol into a liquid stream of methanol and a gaseous stream containing unreacted synthesis gas; subjecting at least 50% (vol) of said gaseous stream to hydrogen recovery and mixing the recovered hydrogen with said synthesis gas in order to elevate its molar ratio to a value of at least 1.9.

Integrated process comprising: synthesis of methanol from a methanol synthesis gas (); synthesis of ammonia from an ammonia make-up gas (), and synthesis of carbon monoxide from a methane-containing stream, wherein: the synthesis of methanol provides a liquid stream of methanol () and a gaseous stream () of unreacted synthesis gas; a portion () of said gaseous stream is separated as purge gas; said purge gas is subjected to a hydrogen recovery step, providing a hydrogen-containing stream () which is used as a hydrogen source for making the ammonia make-up gas, and a tail gas () which is used as a methane source for the synthesis of carbon monoxide by oxidation of a methane-containing stream.

A synthesis process comprising steam reforming a gaseous hydrocarbon feedstock; exothermically reacting the resulting synthesis gas; removing heat from said exothermal reaction by producing steam; using said steam as heat input to the steam reforming, wherein the steam reforming comprises: a) forming a mixture containing steam and hydrocarbons by at least the step of adding a first stream of water to the hydrocarbon feedstock; b) heating said mixture by indirect heat exchange with synthesis gas; c) reforming said mixture after said heating step b).

Process comprising exothermal catalytic reaction of a synthesis gas and related plant

A process and a plant for producing ammonia, where an ASU () delivers an oxygen stream and a nitrogen stream; the oxygen stream () is fed to the secondary reformer of a front-end reforming section (); the nitrogen stream () is used to wash a purge gas or tail gas taken from the synthesis loop (), preferably in a cryogenic section; a methane-free and inert-free gas stream is recovered and recycled to the synthesis loop () or at the suction of the main syngas compressor, to recover the hydrogen contained therein. A corresponding method for increasing the capacity of an ammonia plant, by providing the ASU and feeding the oxygen stream to the secondary reformer and the nitrogen stream to a suitable purge gas recovery unit.
