A high gain input stage for a radio frequency transponder uses an amplifier for increasing a magnitude of an input signal. A DC bias circuit is used for controlling the operation of the amplifier. A resonant circuit is coupled between the amplifier and the DC bias circuit. The resonant circuit is used for receiving a signal generated by an electromagnetic field and for generating the input signal which is amplified by the amplifier. The resonant circuit has an inductor which is used to bias the amplifier thereby removing the need for a decoupling capacitor between the tuned circuit and the DC biasing of the amplifier. Multiple transponder inputs may be implemented in a single integrated circuit package.

A modulated input signal is filtered to reduce noise. The state of the input signal controls the state of a switch. Depending upon its state, the switch connects one of two circuits to a gate. The gate receives the input signal and it passes or blocks the signal depending upon the state of the signal received from the switched circuits. When it is passing the input signal, the output of the gate is equivalent to the input signal. When it is blocking the input signal, the output of the gate is set to a default state. The default state is independent of the input signal. One of the switched circuits gradually modifies the signal provided by the gate to allow the input signal to pass through. The other switched circuit gradually modifies the signal provided to the gate to block the input signal.

A method for a microprocessor power supply system, which features a programmable power supply and a programmable brownout detector with a central control unit that allows for independent, but coordinated, control of operating voltage and brownout reference voltage. The invention prevents improper programming of the operating voltage and the brownout reference voltage levels. The programmable power supply and brownout detector threshold can also be controlled to provide an optimum threshold over a range of operating voltages.

A radio frequency transponder device in an integrated circuit package requires only one dedicated pin for connection to a parallel resonant tuned circuit for receiving a remote signal. The one dedicated pin has a capacitor which blocks direct current (DC) flow and allows independent DC biasing of a radio frequency amplifier for increased signal amplification gain. Another package pin used for common power or ground connections supplies the second connection to the resonant tuned circuit. Multiple transponder inputs may be implemented in a single integrated circuit package using only one dedicated pin per input plus one common pin which may be used for another purpose, such as a power or a ground connection.

A Full-Wave Bridge Rectifier (FWBR) input structure for use in an electrical system is delineated comprising, in combination, a pair of input nodes, and a pair of parasitic BJTs coupled in parallel with the pair of input nodes wherein each parasitic BJT has more than one collector. The input structure also includes an inductor and a capacitor connected in parallel across the pair of input nodes; however, one or more inductors, one or more capacitors, a transformer, or the like could be substituted. Each parasitic BJT also has a base coupled to ground through a resistor, a collector tied directly to ground, and another collector tied to a supply voltage VDD through a resistor. The area associated with each emitter is smaller than the area associated with their respective collector coupled to VDD. This arrangement of the parasitic BJTs assists in minimizing their gain in order to diminish their draw on a downstream power supply.
