A method and system are provided for determining a relation between stimulation settings for a brain stimulation probe and a corresponding V-field. The brain stimulation probe comprises multiple stimulation electrodes. The V-field is an electrical field in brain tissue surrounding the stimulation electrodes. The method comprises sequentially applying a test current to n stimulation electrodes, n being a number between 2 and the number of stimulation electrodes of the brain stimulation probe, for each test current at one of the n stimulation electrodes, measuring a resulting excitation voltage at m stimulation electrodes, m being a number between 2 and the number of stimulation electrodes of the brain stimulation probe, from the stimulation settings and the measured excitation voltages, deriving a coupling matrix, an element in the coupling matrix reflecting an amount of electrical impedance between two of the stimulation electrodes, and using the coupling matrix for determining the relation between the stimulation settings and the corresponding V-field.

Method and system for determining settings for deep brain stimulation

Drivers (-) for driving load circuits () comprise supply circuits () for providing supply current signals from a mains source to the load circuits (), storage circuits () for storing energy destined for the load circuits (), and switch circuits (-) coupled with the storage circuit (), the load circuit () and the supply circuit (), and for switching the coupling among the storage circuits (), the load circuit () and the supply circuit (). The switched storage circuits () can, in charge states, be charged via the supply current signals, and in bypass states be bypassed, and in dependent discharge states be discharged via the load circuit () together with the supply current signals, and in independent discharge states be discharged via the load circuits () independently from the supply current signals for a substantial time duration. These drivers (-) show a reduced total harmonic distortion.

A string of LED loads is supplied by means of a rectified mains voltage. A cathode of each LED load is coupled to ground by means of a string. The strings are made conductive and non-conductive one by one in dependency of the instantaneous value of the rectified mains using both voltage and current sensing.

The present invention relates to a bidirectional semiconductor switch (M, M) with extremely low control power consumption and a bootstrap circuit which allows reliable start of operation of the switch and the hosting device after unlimited duration of mains interruptions. Intelligent control options are provided by operating from a small energy storage and no extra means are required to recover from a depleted energy storage condition. The absence of audible noise and mechanical wear also enables more frequent recharging cycles and allows smaller and thus cheaper energy storage components.

Driver device and a corresponding driving method for driving a load, in particular an LED assembly comprising one or more LEDs. To provide a better performance, better cost-efficiency, improved power factor and reduced losses, a driver device () is provided comprising a rectifier unit () for rectifying a received AC supply voltage (V), load terminals () for providing a drive voltage (V) and/or a drive current (I) for driving said load, a capacitive storage unit () coupled between said rectifier unit and said load terminals for storing electrical energy provided by said rectifier unit and providing electrical energy to said load, and a bridge switching unit () coupled between said rectifier unit and said load for switching said capacitive storage unit into a load current path from said rectifier unit to said load terminals with a desired polarity and for switching said capacitive storage unit out of said load current path.

Driving device and method for driving a load, in particular an LED assembly

A power supply system comprises a parallel arrangement of a linear amplifier (LA) and a DC-DC converter (CO). An output of the linear amplifier (LA) is directly coupled to a load (LO) for supplying a first current (II) to the load (LO). The DC-DC converter (CO) has a converter output coupled to the load (LO) for supplying a second current () to the load (LO). The linear amplifier (LA) comprises a first amplifier stage (OS) to supply the first current (II), and the second amplifier stage (OS) to generate a third current () being proportional to the first current (II). The first amplifier stage (OS) and the second amplifier stage (OS) have matched components. The DC-DC converter (CO) further comprises a controller (CON) having a control input for receiving a voltage generated by the third current () to control the second current () for minimizing a DC-component of the first current (II).

The present invention relates to an improved PTAT current source and a respective method for generating a PTAT current. Opportune collector currents are generated and forced in two transistors exploiting the logarithmic relation between the base-emitter voltage and the collector current of a transistor. A resistor senses a voltage difference between the base-emitter voltages of the two transistors, which can have either the same or different areas. A fraction of the current flowing through the resistor is forced into a transistor collector and mirrored by an output transistor for providing an output current. By this principle an all npn-transistor PTAT current source can be provided that does not need pup transistors as in conventional PTAT current sources. The invention is generally applicable to a variety of different types of integrated circuits needing a PTAT current reference, especially in modern advanced technologies as InP and GaAs where p-type devices are not available. For example, the PTAT current source circuit of the invention can be used in radio frequency power amplifiers, in radio frequency tag circuits, in a satellite microwave front-end.

All NPN-transistor PTAT current source

A current-mode controlled DC/DC converter receives an input voltage (Vb) and supplies an output voltage (Vo). A controllable switch (S) is coupled to an inductor (L) to obtain a periodically varying inductor current (IL) through the inductor (L). A current-mode controller () compares () the output voltage (Vo) with a reference voltage (Ver) to Obtain an error signal (ER), and applies () a transfer function on the error signal (ER) to obtain a control signal (CO; CIO). A correction circuit () adds to the control signal (CO; ICO) a correction signal (ICR) representative for a difference between an original value of the control signal (CO; ICO) and an average value of the inductor current (IL) to obtain a modified control signal (MCO; IMC). A drive circuit () compares () a sensed signal (SE) being representative for the inductor current (IL) with the modified control signal (MCO; ICO) to switch off () the controllable switch (S) when a level of the sensed signal (SE) reaches a level of the modified control signal (MCO; ICO).

A power supply system comprises a parallel arrangement of a first switched mode power supply () which has a first system bandwidth (LB) and a second switched mode power supply () which has a second system bandwidth (LB) covering higher frequencies than the first system bandwidth (LB). The first switched mode power supply () is dimensioned to supply a first maximal output power (P), the second switched mode power supply () is dimensioned to supply a second maximal output power (P) being smaller than the first maximal output power (P). A control circuit () varies a reference voltage (Vr) of both the first switched mode power supply () and the second switched mode power supply () to obtain a corresponding variation of an output voltage (Vout) of the parallel arrangement.

An integrator () applies an integrating action on the error signal (ER) to obtain a control signal (ICO). The integrator () allows influencing the integrating action. A determination circuit () determines whether the copy control signal (ICOC) reaches a limit value (IMIN, IMAX). An influencing circuit () influences the integrating action to limit the control signal (ICO) when the copy control signal (ICOC) reaches the limit value (IMIN, IMAX).
