Branched polyglycols and branched polyether functional organopolysiloxanes are disclosed as is a process for making branched polyether functional organopolysiloxanes by reacting an organohydrogensiloxane and a branched polyglycol having an unsaturated group via a hydrosilylation reaction, as well as coating compositions containing branched polyether functional organopolysiloxanes and a binder are disclosed. Coatings resulting from these compositions were more hydrophilic and had improved dirt release properties as compared to coatings containing similar, but un-branched, polyether functional organopolysiloxanes.

Branched polyglycols and branched polyether functional organopolysiloxanes and coatings containing same

Provided is a surfactant composition having wide pH stability. The composition is useful for various applications, including textile processing. The composition comprises: a nonionic surfactant of formula (I): R&#x2014;O&#x2014;[(CHCH(R)&#x2014;O)(CHCHO)]&#x2014;H, wherein R, R, x, y, and z are defined herein, together with an anionic surfactant.

Surfactant compositions with wide pH stability

Disclosed are compositions of the formula wherein Rand Rare each independently hydrogen or a linear or branched alkyl group containing from (1) to about (18) carbon atoms, provided that Rand Rtogether contain from about (8) to about (18) carbon atoms, and further provided that less than about 10 mole percent of Ror Ris hydrogen; Ris hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing from (1) to about (6) carbon atoms; Rand Rare each independently hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing from (2) to about (6) carbon atoms, provided that Rand Rtogether contain from (2) to about (6) carbon atoms; m is an average value ranging from (0) to about (10), and n is an average value ranging from about (3) to (about 40), provided that the group containing m and the group containing n may be exchanged with one another as to position; and z is an average value ranging from about (0.5) to about (5). These compositions are conveniently prepared by a process including at least two steps and are useful as surfactants.

Alkylene oxide-capped secondary alcohol alkoxylates useful as surfactants

Novel mixtures of long-chain (C10-C20) olefins are functionalized by conversion to aldehydes using an OXO process, or to sulfates, sulfonates, sulfones, sulfides, or sulfoxides by direct sulfonation. The aldehydes may then be hydrogenated to form alcohols, or aminated to form amines or amides. The olefins starting mixture may be acquired as a byproduct of the tetramerization of ethylene in the presence of certain chromium-containing tetramerization catalysts. The functionalized mixtures, and derivatives prepared therefrom such as alkoxylates prepared from the alcohols, may be useful as surfactants that may offer improved performance in many applications, while their preparation based on a byproduct mixture reduces their cost and also reduces waste-handling issues for this non-targeted stream.

Functionalized long-chain olefin mixtures and uses therefor

Surfactant compositions that include one or more nonionic surfactants derived from seed oils and having a mixture of at least 8, 10 and 12 carbon atom linear alkyl moieties find use in a number of end use applications as substitutes for petroleum derived surfactants.

Alkoxylate blend surfactants

Polyalkylene glycol compositions having reduced low molecular weight oligomers are disclosed. Some compositions, particularly polyethylene glycol compositions, have a number average molecular weight range from about 3000 to about 10,000 g/mol and have a total oligomer concentration of less than about 400 ppm of all oligomers having a molecular weight of less than or equal to 812 g/mol and a total oligomer concentration of less than about 50 ppm of all oligomers having a molecular weight of less than or equal to 240 g/mol. Other polyalkylene compositions, particularly polyethylene glycol compositions, are characterized by a total oligomer concentration of less than about 90 ppm of all oligomers having a molecular weight less than or equal to 460 g/mol and are obtained without further processing to remove oligomers having a molecular weight of less than about 460 g/mol. Methods for making such compositions are also disclosed.
