Cross-country ski boot, in particular for performance of the skating step and produced from an outer sole, on a front part of which the ski is attached, and comprising a lower upper fitted with a heel counter on which is jointed a rigid collar designed to enclose the lower part of the leg and which extends from the joint to the top of the upper beyond its upper end. The boot comprises an elastic device for the longitudinal angular control of the ski in the air in relation to the sole of the boot, during the return phase of the ski. The device may be a strap made of an elastic fabric, which connects the collar to the upper so as to cause an automatic return movement of the upper toward the collar, and, in consequence, the automatic lifting of the front part of the ski when the ski is not in a forward-propulsion phase.

The invention concerns a sport shoe made of an upper with a heel cap, and including a rigid collar attached to the heel cap of the shoe and intended to surround the lower leg. According to the invention, the upper of the shoe is low, and the attachment of the rigid collar on the upper occurs at the upper end of the latter and essentially at the level of the malleolus.

A slide fastener for a sport shoe in which the slide fastener is mounted on the upper anterior part of the upper of the shoe and extends in an inclined direction from the metatarso-phalangeal articulation area of the big toe towards the area of the opposite malleolus. In this way, deformations of the slide fastener caused by flexing of the shoe are eliminated. The slide fastener may also be reversely mounted to the interior of the upper to protect the slide fastener from snow, frost, and dirt. The shoe may be a cross-country skiing shoe.

A binding for releasably securing an end of a ski boot to a ski including a body having a jaw for engaging a portion of the end of the boot, wherein the jaw includes a pair of wings mounted for lateral movement from an engagement position to a release position in response to the application of a release threshold force of a predetermined magnitude laterally against the jaw. The body is further mounted for movement in a direction substantially perpendicular to the lateral movement. An energization device is included for biasing the jaw toward the engagement position, against which the threshold force is applied to move the jaw from the engagement position to the release position. The binding further includes an assembly responsive to lateral movement of the end of said boot for applying a force against the energization device. The assembly is responsive to non-lateral movement of the end of the boot for applying a force against the energization device, wherein for a given increment of movement of the energization device by non-lateral movement of the end of the boot, the amount by which the lateral movement of the end of the boot is required for movement of the jaw to the release position is reduced by a substantially corresponding increment.

An apparatus located between a ski and a binding mounted thereon, including at least one shock absorption buffer positioned partially in a seat cut-away with respect to the most elevated portion of the ski and extending beyond this portion at rest. The comfort of the skier and the steering of the skis is enhanced without raising the binding with respect to the ski by utilizing the natural cut-aways. The cut-aways are created during the manufacture of the ski or are provided in the thickness of the ski after manufacture. The buffer is then installed within the seat thus cut-away, rather than merely installed on the upper surface of the ski. The buffer is preferably made of viscoelastic material.

A safety binding for binding a boot to a ski, which includes first and second laterally pivotable independent wings adapted to retain one end of the boot on the ski. Each of the wings is mounted to pivot around respective first and second lateral pivot axes. Elastic return means bias each of the wings towards a centered stable maintenance position of the boot. The apparatus includes a movable antifriction plate adapted to slide laterally in a sliding zone of the upper surface of the ski. An intermediate linkage assembly is provided for associating the antifriction plate with the binding wings. A safety binding adapted to releasably hold a boot on a ski includes an apparatus for securing the binding to the ski, a movable body with spaced lateral arms pivotably connected to the apparatus transversely to the longitudinal extent of the ski, and a jaw pivotably connected to the body along a transverse axis. The jaw includes a device for engaging and holding a portion of the boot on the apparatus when the boot is positioned on the apparatus and the binding is attached to a ski. The binding includes a device for biasing the jaw and body towards the ski and increasing the bias on the jaw when the body moves upward. A safety binding, adapted to secure one end of a boot to a ski, includes an apparatus for securing the binding to the ski, a body with spaced lateral arms pivotably connected to the apparatus along a transverse axis, and a jaw pivotably connected to the body along a transverse axis. The jaw includes a device for retaining an end of the boot. The binding includes a device for biasing the a jaw towards the ski, which includes an elastic energy storing element, a jaw ramp located on an inner surface of the jaw, and a pressure element slideably contacting the jaw ramp. The binding further includes a lever, pivotably connected to the apparatus along a transverse axis, which includes an upper portion located between the first pressure element and the elastic energy storing element.

An elastic device is provided for normally maintaining the jaw on its support in a central engaged position. A binding is provided which includes first and second distinct jaws which are rotatable about respective distinct axes of the body of a binding. The jaws are both biased by a common spring via one or more transverse arms having ends which abut the front portions of the respective jaws. Rotation of one of the jaws, and subsequent release of a boot retained thereby, effects compression of the spring and reduces the release threshold of the other jaw, thereby minimizing injury to a skier.
