A plastic film roll includes: a convolute cardboard tube including a tubular body having a tubular body wall formed by a plurality of layers of a straight rolled cardboard sheet having a weight equal to or less than 300 gsm; a plastic film wound about the convolute cardboard tube to form a plurality of plastic film windings around the convolute cardboard tube, the plastic film windings creating a radial compression force equal to or greater than 10 bar on the tubular body wall, wherein the cardboard sheet includes a plurality of fibers, at least a majority of the fibers being substantially aligned in a tangential direction relative to the tubular body to allow the convolute cardboard tube to resist the radial compression force.

Convolute cardboard tube, apparatus and method for manufacturing the same

An in-line, contactless and non-destructive method for detecting and identifying defects in a moving cardboard structure is provided, as well as the associated system. The cardboard structure is of the type made of layered paper plies, such as cardboard tubes for example. The method includes the steps of emitting acoustic waves with predetermined frequencies toward the moving cardboard structure. The acoustic waves are converted into mechanical waves propagating through the moving cardboard structure. The method also includes a step of capturing the acoustic waves propagated, wherein said captured acoustic waves result from a conversion of the propagated mechanical waves through the moving cardboard structure. The method also provides steps of analyzing the captured acoustic waves; and detecting and identifying defects in the moving laminated cardboard structure based on predetermined propagation properties measured from the captured acoustic waves.

A method for handling and drying cardboard tubes is provided. The method involves using the skids for supporting cardboard tubes during the drying, wrapping and transport of the cardboard tubes, in order to reduce handling of the tubes while maintaining a low moisture level in the tubes.

A corner piece is provided for forming packaging elements. The corner piece includes an inner member and an outer member having respective apexes. A connecting member connects the inner and outer members and substantially aligns their apexes, while spacing the inner and outer members apart from one another. A securing element is provided in the outer member for securing an exterior edge protector along the outer member. The securing element includes substantially U-shaped retaining walls engageable with the exterior edge protector. In some embodiments, the spacing between the inner and outer members defines retaining cavities for securing adjacent sidewalls of a storage container.

The invention concerns an elongated protective corner for the transport and/or packaging of products. The corner has at least two non-corrugated paperboard plies combined together to create two perpendicular wings and an apex The plies form multiple ply sections, and at least one of the ply sections of a given ply overlaps another ply section of the same ply. This overlapping arrangement gives the apex a resistance force of about 100 to about 500 lbs. The thickness of the corner can vary, with each wing being in the range of about 100 to about 250 points, and each ply is made from paperboard having a grammage of about 120 to about 380 g/m. The resistance force can be determined by mounting the corner upon two blocks, and applying a force to the apex at a middle of the corner until a fracture is detected.

The invention concerns an elongated protective corner for the transport and/or packaging of products. The corner has at least two non-corrugated paperboard plies combined together to create two perpendicular wings and an apex. A recyclable composite container is provided. The recyclable composite container comprises a cardboard hollow body having an open end defining an opening, the body being formed by a sidewall having inner and outer surfaces, the sidewall being provided with an aperture at a distance from the open end. The recyclable composite container also comprises a framing element removably connectable to the open end having a collar sized and shaped for snugly fitting over said open end; and a resilient arm extending from the collar, the arm extending along the inner surface of the sidewall and having a projection sized and shaped to be removably fitted in the aperture of the sidewall of the hollow body. This construction allows connection of the framing element to the cardboard hollow body by fitting the projection of the resilient arm in the aperture of the hollow body, and disconnection of the framing element from the cardboard hollow body by pressing the projection to disengage the projection from the aperture and by pulling the framing element away from the cardboard hollow body.

The present invention provides a restored winding core and a method for manufacturing the same, wherein at least one discarded winding core is first collected. At least one of the extremities of the discarded winding core is internally ground on a predetermined grinding distance to remove the crimping portion and provide a ground portion thereon. The ground portion defines a female joint socket extending at the corresponding extremity of the discarded winding core for providing a machined core extremity. The method also comprises the step of providing at least one hollow insert tube diametrically snugly fitting into the female joint socket. The at least one insert tube is inserted inside the corresponding female joint socket for providing a restored core extremity. The present invention thus allows to restore the damaged extremities of a winding core which can then be reused as a new winding core of the same length. The present method also allows to join several discarded winding cores end to end for providing a restored winding core of a longer length.

The invention provides a reusable formwork for forming a polygonal upright concrete column using a plurality of retaining devices and a plurality of panels arranged with the retaining devices for providing a forming cavity between the panels adapted to receive concrete therein. Hooping means are used to hoop the panels forming the cavity.
